SUMMARY:
The Infection Preventionist conducts infection prevention and control activities for the organization under the supervision of the Director of Infection Prevention. Activities include conducting surveillance for healthcare associated infections (HAI) and communicable diseases, monitoring compliance with recommended infection prevention practices, recognizing and controlling outbreaks of infection, and providing education and/or performance improvement strategies related to infection prevention.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conducts surveillance to identify infectious diseases.
* Accurately analyzes and interprets Infection Prevention outcome data.
* Uses sound epidemiologic principles to investigate suspected outbreaks of infection.
* Plans, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control measures.
* Conducts Infection Control Risk Assessments to identify priorities when selecting Infection Prevention Strategies
* Uses NHSN criteria to classify HAIs and community acquired infections.
* Identifies and reports Communicable Diseases/Conditions to Public Health, as required.
* Conducts rounds to monitor compliance with recommended Infection Prevention practices.
* Provides education on Infection Prevention.
* Assists with the management of Infection Prevention and Control activities.
* Assists with development and revision of Infection Prevention and Control policies.
* Participates in hospital committees to promote Infection Prevention.
* Works with Employee Health on infection-related issues, i.e. needle sticks/blood exposures, work restrictions, vaccinations, etc.
* Obtains continuing education credits related to Infection Prevention by attending at least one conference, or online webinar, every year.
* Obtains and maintains Certification in Infection Prevention and Control through CBIC (Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc).
* Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
* Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
OTHER INFORMATION:
* Certified Infection Control (CIC) certification is preferred, will be required to earn certification if not present at time of hire
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare required
* Experience with computer programs, data management, and documentation to regulatory requirements preferred
