Ohio Wesleyan University is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director for the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. This is a salaried, full-time position with benefits.

Successful candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, current and extensive knowledge in the field of social justice, equity, inclusion, diversity, and cultural competency, and demonstrated experience in developing and leading student programs and services.

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) takes the lead on providing support for students at Ohio Wesleyan University through services provided by the Women’s Resource Center, Spectrum (2SLGBTQIA+), and Global Majority initiatives. OMSA promotes community building, wellness, the pursuit of joy, and the movement toward thriving in all environments.  OMSA’s goal is to support students who hold historically underrepresented identities to reach their goal of graduation.

 Job Summary:

The Assistant Director assists with the overall management of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) and will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and services that support the mission of the department and of the University. The Assistant Director collaborates with University and community partners to serve students who hold historically underrepresented identities as they work toward graduation.

Responsibilities and duties:

•  The implementation of restorative practice interventions
• The creation and facilitation of educational workshops for students about diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
• Collaboration with colleagues and community partners in the areas of intersectionality, identity, and diversity knowledge, practice, and policy; development and organization of activities and events for students to raise awareness of social, economic, and political justice issues (such as poverty, immigration, the environment, incarceration, housing, and education) through an intersectional perspective
• The development of campus engagement initiatives for historically excluded students, with a focus on program development, campus involvement, leadership development, and career development
• Supervision of 1-3 undergraduate student employees, including students working in support of the specified programming areas of this function, as well as students supporting marketing, social media, and/or digital content development for the entire center
• Oversight of campus-wide outreach and awareness initiatives, as well as campus speakers, workshops, and educational sessions that provide a variety of learning and development opportunities for students. 

 Factors contributing success:   

•  Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
• Current and extensive knowledge in the field of social justice, equity, inclusion, diversity, and cultural competency
• Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Women & Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Social Work, or a closely related field (Preferred)
• Demonstrated leadership in initiating and implementing programming among student groups/organizations
• Direct advising experience with students, student programs and/or student organizations
• Experience in the higher education setting 
• 1-3 years of relevant experience including Graduate Assistantships by start date
