The Director of Educational Programming Initiatives (subject to change) will report to the Associate Provost of Community and Inclusion and will help to define, develop, and execute strategies and ongoing programming and training initiatives, which promote the diversity, inclusion, and equity priorities of the University. The Director will join a relatively newly created unit within Boston University focused on aligning the University's stated values regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion to its policies, practices, structures, climate, and culture.

The Director will play an essential role in helping to develop institutional programs and initiatives that promote a culture of inclusion, intellectual capaciousness, mutual respect, and civility. The Director serves as the primary team member for integrating diversity education efforts across campus, implementing diversity programs and training initiatives for the BU community, BUs schools and colleges, supporting faculty initiatives, managing community outreach efforts, and serving as a liaison with campus divisions. This includes supporting diversity training and programming within the schools and colleges, representing and advocating for the department, and planning and executing dynamic and research-based diversity training and workshops. In addition, the Director is responsible for envisioning, creating, and implementing ongoing programming solely or in collaboration with other units that tackle and address issues related gender, race, social class, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, political ideology, age, disability, justice, among others. They will be responsible for developing in-person and online programming, training, and presentation materials. In this inaugural role, the Director will have the opportunity to develop and deepen a diverse slate of programs and training for faculty, staff, and students, and to work in collaboration with key stakeholders across the institution (ex: Organizational Development & Learning, Human Resources, The Hub, academic departments especially in relation to schools and colleges and the academic program, the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground, the Gotlieb Archives, Initiative on Cities, Build LAB, etc.) and within the city to create an exciting, expansive, and farsighted group of educational programs and educational initiatives that are in accord with BUs founding principles and redoubled commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director will be responsible for creating dynamic programming and training focused on the public exploration of challenging ideas and catalyzing stronger communities among BUs broad range of constituents. These mutually reinforcing goals will help BU faculty, students, and staff to develop enhanced methods of engaging across difference. The Director will also support the growth and development of existing affinity based Faculty & Staff Community Networks and proliferate new ones. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for managing and administering several grants hosted by BU D&I. They will also be responsible for the supervision of full time staff as well as a graduate assistant. This role requires the ability to simultaneously work at the department level, synthesizing and tailoring educational initiatives based on unique qualities within a department and also the ability to work at the macro level, developing multimodal large-scale programs and training initiatives that can effectively engage a wide variety of constituents (i.e.: faculty, staff, senior academic and administrative leadership, and students). The Director will work to control quality and content of DEI training across the University with a special eye towards building organizational capacity, ensuring consistency, and deepening integration of material across the University.

To that end, the Director must be a diplomatic, strategic, highly organized, creative and tactical, visionary, and relational, content expert who fundamentally is a facilitator and teacher driven to deliver tangible results in the areas of diversity, equity, and organizational change. The ideal candidate will have exceptional facilitation, teaching, and presentation skills and some experience with or knowledge of organizational development. Further, the ideal candidate will also have some experience with developing and overseeing program and training logistics.
