The Senior Business Process Consultant role reports up through the Senior Director of the department of Care Management. The position will support departmental leadership in daily operations as well as specific area initiatives focused on improving organizational performance and value-based care. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and has demonstrated experience with healthcare processes and practices involving strategic thinking to further innovative solutions that yield measurable results to operations, patient satisfaction, and outcomes. Responsible for work that is complex and varied in nature related to systems process analysis, design, project management, and implementation. Requires highest level understanding of organization's business systems and industry requirements. Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make recommendations on matters of significance. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
Under the direction of the Senior Director, provides strategic and operational support to departmental leadership in support of the Department of Care Management’s mission.
Assumes responsibility for the implementation, management, and performance of initiatives focused on improving Michigan Medicine’s clinical value in terms of outcomes, care appropriateness, and cost.
Conducts effective project meetings.
Prepares communication planning and presentations for a variety of audiences including senior and executive leadership.
Identifies and assesses issues, risks, and interdependencies, determines root causes, and recommends sustainable improvements to operations and specific initiatives.
Functions as point of escalation support and departmental liaison for specific initiatives.
Manages the integration of team-members’ tasks and deliverables.
Prepares and manages project budgets by forecasting requirements, tracking expenditures, and completing financial reconciliations.
Participate in departmental leadership meetings.
Complete design, data analysis, report communication, and distribution of operational metrics.
Provide administrative, logistical, management, and operational support to:
- Institutional committees (ex: Utilization Management Committee)
- Utilization Management Physician Advisor Team (UMPAT)
- MTAP ( Michigan Transportation Assistance Program)
- specific ongoing programs and initiatives in Care Management
Other duties and projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Care Management and Medical Director, Care Management.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, health care, or engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 5 years of experience with demonstrated progressive responsibilities including some form of project management.
Ability to analyze and interpret data as well as synthesize it for stakeholders to address project and performance issues, milestones, and tracking.
Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management and leadership in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge of strategic planning, risk management, and change management concepts.
Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
Strong relationship-building skills and understanding of complex organizations.
Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task while demonstrating adaptability, agility, and commitment to embracing change within ambiguous environments.
Detail-oriented and able to bring structure to a variable environment.
Experience with information management software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, Google Office Suite, MiChart (Epic Electronic Medical Record System)
Experience with data analysis and data presentation, including presentation of complex analysis in a variety of forums.
Knowledge of scientific problem solving and “lean thinking” concepts.
Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, public health, or engineering.
6-12 years of experience in a project management or leadership role in a consulting setting, academic medical center, major teaching hospital, or health insurance company.
Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Michigan Medicine clinical processes and policies.
Experience with website design and management.
Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean, or Six Sigma Certification
