Michigan Medicine Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) is seeking an energetic person who seeks a fulfilling position with meaning and purpose by having a direct impact to all of Michigan Medicine and the broader community. In the role of MiChart Technical Environment Coordinator, you will join our Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) division and assist with overall application infrastructure strategy and support for both project initiatives and operations tasks for the MiChart implementation of Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) system which serves over 400,000 lives locally and seeks to positively impact over 4 million lives across the state of Michigan.
This role’s primary focus will be to lead the coordination and communication for executing the environment strategy for the MiChart implementation of the Epic EHR system, including planning and implementation of system upgrades and patching, downtime planning and execution, environment refreshes, infrastructure planning, optimization changes and departmental and enterprise-wide initiatives. This position will require occasional weekend and evening work to facilitate system maintenance and upgrade activities. This position will be part of the HITS-ETS MiChart Infrastructure team and report to the HITS MiChart Infrastructure Manager.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of MiChart hardware and software updates and changes including but not limited to servers, network, storage, backup, operating systems, virtualization platforms, and desktop devices across multiple support teams for the Epic environment as well as general environment management tasks.
- Responsible to develop agendas and meeting content details, facilitate meetings, capture key points, document decision points and agreements and track follow up tasks to completion, communicate and coordinate necessary changes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to document standardized processes and map in process flow charts, as well as identify opportunities for process automation and improvements.
- Track technical issues and coordinate issue resolution.
- Support technical projects using project management best practices to develop detailed work plans, schedules, estimates, and resource plans, conduct project meetings and manage status reports.
- Work with vendor representatives and the U-M business community and end users to ensure the system meets the organization’s business needs.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish, document, and maintain environment management processes.
- Develop, document, and maintain internal team processes and procedures.
- Routinely assess current processes, identify inefficiencies and work with key stakeholders for continuous improvements.
- Perform analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with developing system service enhancements.
- Prepare technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Perform any other work tasks as assigned by manager
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7 years’ experience in healthcare related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience in the Healthcare Information Technology field in a Project Coordinator or similar role with technical focus.
- Technical support experience with Epic EHR system.
- Basic knowledge of available options for data exchange and HL7 messaging.
- Certification(s) in Epic systems or application areas, or Project Management
Expertise
- Experience with diverse operating environments, applications, and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinating complex enterprise projects and/or operational work in a complex computing environment with competing priorities.
- Must be aware of general industry practices for managing the deployment of functional configuration build, services and infrastructure changes through multiple environments supporting highly customized enterprise class EHR systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivery and support of enterprise class systems and support of the end-user community.
- General understanding of business systems and industry requirements. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic as necessary.
- Proven success with successively increased responsibilities performing project coordination and project management duties on a mix of small-to-moderate sized and low-to-moderately complex projects and/or single large, complex project.
- Exhibit proven excellent communication skills across a variety of mediums including written, verbal, face-to-face, conference calls and meetings ranging from small to large participation.
