Your day.
As the System Director Health Informatics, you will analyze and document user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems. Along with reviewing system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
In this role you need to know how to:
- Establish standard policies, processes, and procedures for conducting informatics activities, and work with internal and external customers on projects requiring informatics expertise.
- Lead the provision of Health Informatics services through collaborative relationships to facilitate the development and maintenance of an integrated and standardized electronic medical record and other HIT. The Director participates in strategy and financial planning, develops, manages, and oversees governance processes, and maintains appropriate communication with CNO, CMOâ™s, and other leaders
- Develop a service orientation within the Health Informatics department that drives proactive approach to meeting the physicians, clinicians and end user needs. Manage expectations and performance of Health Informaticists and other assigned staff and exercises or oversees pertinent human resource functions such as hiring, orientation, and performance evaluations. Assure 24 x 7 Health Informatics support coverage for assigned areas
- Oversee the creation of HIT solutions that support efficient clinical workflow, leverage evidence based medicine and standardizes best practices. Develops and drives tactical plans and implementation for key Initiatives. Develop and implement Organizational Change Management Plans related to HIT Projects.
- Establish and manage a process for periodic content review and update to insure current best practice is embedded within the record. Develops methods to monitor the impact of HIT on outcomes and safety and defines risk mitigation interventions where appropriate. Conducts and oversees root cause analyses related to Health Information Technology
- Effectively use information for strategic and operational decision making and participates in the preparation of annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, sup-plies, and other departmental costs. Participate in the development of Business Plans related to Informatics and HIT projects including assessment of clinical and financial impacts, potential effects to, policy, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Interacts with executive level business leads including CNOâ™s, CMOâ™s, quality experts, and other operational leadership.
- Direct human resource functions such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development. Oversee the maintenance of personnel files, including documentation of appropriate staff orientation, competency, training, discipline and performance reviews. Oversee department timekeeping and payroll. Collaborate with HR concerning employee issues and performance. Conduct employee coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions and annual appraisals. Ensure staff adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Your experience

- Bachelorâ™s degree in healthcare, business or computer related area
- Six (6) years of work experience in the field is required, including at least five (5) years of previous supervisory or management level experience is required. Four years of additional experience in healthcare, business or computer related area may substitute for the required Bachelorâ™s degree.
- Process Engineering or Quality improvement experience, preferred
- Project Management experience, preferred
- Experience with adult education and skills development, preferred
