Accountabilities / Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

To produce imaging using ultrasound technology to assist physicians with formulating a medical diagnosis, while complying with safety and regulatory requirements. Specifically conducts ultrasound exams and documents clinically appropriate results for interpretive physician records.

A. JOB KNOWLEDGE

1. Reviews Medical Imaging request for proper examination and clinical information

2. Assures that patients are properly screened and assessments are performed before the patient is taken into the

ultrasound room.

3. Performs Ultrasound scans using proper protocols established by the radiologist

4. Follows emergency procedures when indicted.

5. Assures films are properly processed and sent to the radiologist for interpretation.

*a. After each patient is scanned, images should be ready to read

6. Maintains current and competent through continuing education seminars, membership in professional

organizations and review of current literature and memos.

7. Assure that the equipment is clean and in good working condition, and reports all equipment problems.

8. Attends hospital in-services and meetings.

9. Evaluates request form for proper clinical information and, if not available, follows through.

10. Is familiar with disaster, fire, and other policies which are important in the day-to-day operation of his/her

department.

11. Monitors patients conditions during the procedure

*a. ability to communicate with each patient during scan

12. Adheres to and supports the established policies of the hospital

13. Assists in other areas of the Imaging Department and surgery as radiology technologist, when needed.

14. Attends continuing education programs specific to providing care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or

geriatric population, as applicable to area of practice.

15. Assists with clerical duties and transporting patients when needed

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

License or Certification

• ARRT Registered
• ARDMS Registered or registry eligible

Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited program of Radiological Technology.
• Ultrasound experience 3-5 years.
• BLS

Skills Required

Imaging skills as they pertain to ultrasound, general radiology, portable and operating room applications. Must be able to read, write, and follow oral/written instructions; manual and mechanical aptitude. Answer telephone; computer skills; maintain filing systems; proof read imaging reports; research information; schedule appointments; ability to organize and handle details with ease; medical terminology; conduct self in a polite, forthright manner, articulately communicate with others by reasoning and using discretion, independent judgment, common sense, and timeliness in customer service decision making. Ability to work under stress; people oriented; flexibility; ability to

set priorities; compile statistics; ability to follow protocol established by radiologist; CPR certification; ability to process images through dry view processor, film digitizer; input and process data/images on PACs ability to follow through to make sure tasks are completed. Demonstrates sound cost containment and techniques.
