Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Research Operations, this position will provide oversight and management of the Department of Surgery's Biostatistical and Research Programming (STARP) Core.
This position will be the primary point of contact for faculty requests for biostatistical and research programming support and will assess project feasibility and implementation. This position is responsible for allocating work appropriately amongst Core staff to meet research deadlines and deliverables in accordance with project requirements, staff workloads, applicable regulations, and department practices. The position will also be involved in budgeting for Core resources on grants and managing effort within the Core on funded projects. The position is also responsible for creating partnerships and collaborations between the Core and School of Medicine and Public Health, campus, UW Health, and external resources.
The incumbent will be responsible for the planning and execution of statistical analyses and research programming for various biomedical, clinical and outcomes/health services research projects. The incumbent will also identify strategic opportunities and make recommendations for improvements and growth of the Core. The incumbent will collaborate with Department of Surgery faculty and scientists on research projects. Research projects that require biostatistical support include basic science/wet lab experiments, retrospective reviews of clinical data, prospective trials and clinical studies, as well as health services research projects involving large datasets. An incumbent with biostatistical and/or research programming experience may also actively engage in research projects.

Responsibilities:
Initiates, develops, and implements operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives. May supervise staff and/or approve unit expenditures.
30% Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
15% Identifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
20% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
15% Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
10% Leads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
5% May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expenditures
5% Contributes to the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors

Education:
Preferred Bachelor's Degree in public health, biological sciences, business, biostatistics, data programming or related field.
Qualifications:
Required: Minimum one year of experience in an academic medical institution or relevant industry.

Salary:
Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The starting salary for the position is $70,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
