The Project Engineer is responsible for all routine on-site project administration, scheduling, and engineering.
He or she will be responsible for developing/managing work plans; resolving technical issues; plan, coordinate, and manage on-site construction engineering activities; schedule and manage subcontractors; prepare monthly pay estimates; update the schedule; prepare, coordinate, and updates budgets, change orders, and cost reports.
He or she also reinforces Massman’s Incident & Injury Free Initiative along with our corporate mission and vision statement in the daily performance of their work.
Be an Incident and Injury Free Leader
Participate in the project safety process, conduct safety inspections, and contribute to weekly toolbox meetings and safety training
Provide technical support in construction planning, quality control, interpretation of design, application of construction methods, resolution and documentation of design conflicts, and constructability reviews to ensure successful job completion.
Has project-level responsibility for contract administration & compliance, as well as project engineering (lift plans and work plans)
Manage scheduling and monthly progress narratives, as well as owner and subcontractor pay estimates
Recognize and provide timely notification of potential contractual risks or issues; independently develop mitigation plans
Generate applicable RFIs (Request for Information) on contractual or design-related issues
Supervise cost report management and lead regular review meetings
Responsible for complete understanding of the contract including Massman's and the client/owner’s contractual obligations
Ensure clients/owners are notified in a timely manner regarding extra work, design changes, delays, etc.
Maintain project-level oversight for all construction activities to ensure conformance to design specifications, safety standards, and production goals
Conduct recurring team meetings to stay aligned with expectations and goals of the project
Manage the subcontract and procurement process including directing or performing the solicitation, review, and document preparation elements
Take the lead in working with designers and/or engineers to do value engineering, material substitutions, and engineering related constructability issues
Supervise, direct, and mentor junior engineering staff and/or interns to foster individual development and high-quality project standards
Manage the project recordkeeping and correspondence functions; maintain tracking logs for change orders, RFI’s, and submittals.
Represent company and project team during client and project management meetings to ensure effective communication
Travel as required to attend company meetings, site visits, off-site training, etc.
Commute to out-of-town jobsites periodically.
Assume additional responsibilities as directed
This position may also assist in the development of estimates, schedules, and bid documentation for company pursuits and future work
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related (Civil, Industrial, Mechanical, Construction Engineering) or Construction Management field
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Field/Office Engineer
Previous experience in or exposure to the heavy civil and/or marine construction industry; experience with Corps of Engineers work is a plus
Valid driver's license for occasional required travel
Able to work with a variety of staff and coordinate effectively with junior and senior managers or craft personnel.
Demonstrated proficiency to develop, analyze, and maintain complex project schedules.
Demonstrated ability to implement, utilize, and manage the cost management process including quantities, cost reports, forecasting, labor reports, documentation, and recordkeeping
Ability to efficiently perform the contract administration functions including correspondence, document control, daily reports, and change order/claims preparation.
Ability to efficiently perform project administration processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and subcontractor/supplier correspondence and tracking
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to compose and edit professional letters to external organizations including customer, vendor, government agencies, and subcontractors
Strong computer proficiency and Microsoft Office experience; ability to adapt to new technologies and processes
Excellent grammar, composition, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 & Auto-Cad
Estimating skills, knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob is a plus
