The Office for Student Access (OSA) determines and facilitates the implementation of reasonable accommodations to address documented disabilities through an interactive process with the student and their academic program; this may include academic adjustments, auxiliary aids and/or program modifications. Reasonable accommodations enable students with disabilities to have an equal opportunity to participate in an academic program or activity by providing alternative ways to accomplish the course requirements that eliminate or reduce disability-related barriers.
The Director of the Office for Student Access serves as the university official responsible for providing legally mandated accommodations and services for OHSU students who have disabilities as required by state and federal laws. This includes, but is not limited to students in the School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Public Health. The Director works collaboratively with key people and offices at OHSU to ensure that reasonable accommodations are determined and implemented across all educational programs at the OHSU main campus and its regional campuses. This work is accomplished in consultation with each schools Program Accommodation Liaison (PAL). The Director serves as a resource for students, faculty, program staff and administrators through information sharing, training, and support related to serving students with disabilities. The Director also maintains regional and national professional affiliations with disability-related organizations.
1. Determine eligibility and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in consultation with students, student health-care providers (as needed), faculty and Program Accommodation Liaisons (PALs) across all OHSU academic programs at OHSU main campus and affiliate campuses.
2. Serve as a resource to students through information sharing, disability-specific learning support, self-advocacy training, and referral to other disability-related resources
3. Maintain confidential student records , including documents pertaining to disability documentation, the interactive process, reasonable accommodations, and the implementation of reasonable accommodations; preparation of regular and annual reports addressing disability services
4. Serve as resource for faculty, staff and administrators regarding the appropriate implementation of disability accommodations through consultation, training and referral to disability-related resources
5. Collaborate with OHSU administrators, departments, and faculty to guide practice, procedures and policies related to equal access for students with disabilities to ensure compliance with relevant state and federal disability laws; keep apprised of applicable legal case law, OCR decisions, and DOJ recommendations and work with OHSU legal counsel as needed
6. Represent the Office for Student Access at the Physical Access Committee, Diversity Advisory Council, Academic & Student Affairs Council and other internal committees/activities as requested
7. Represent OHSU and the Office for Student Access at regional and national conferences, through membership in regional and national organizations, and through participation in other external activities related to student disability services

Bachelors Degree A + 7 years of experience OR Masters Degree + 6 years of experience working with students with disabilities and disability services at the college or university level; or demonstrated equivalent experience.
Ability to prioritize work demands must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities
Ability to develop/maintain knowledge of disability compliance issues in higher education
Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent presentation, training, teaching skills
Ability to interpret complex policies and procedures and develop written guidelines
Knowledge and ability to apply the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA Amendments, Section 504 and Oregon State law as it pertains to students with disabilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening abilities coupled with the skill to analyze complex issues and present clear and logical solutions and recommendations.
Broad knowledge base of a variety of strategies, tools and accommodations to support student needs.
Education:
Psychology, Psychiatry, Special Education, Adult Education, Sociology, Disability Law, Civil Rights Law
Experience:
Experience addressing disability accommodation needs of individuals;
knowledge of and/or experience in providing accommodations in the medical sciences, including lab and clinical accommodations
Managerial, leadership, project management, supervisory and budgetary experience
Excellent rapport with faculty, students, and diverse populations
