Department Description

The Cardiac Catheterization Labs & Hybrid OR are specialized invasive procedure rooms where diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral-vascular procedures are performed under fluoroscopy on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Cardiovascular Technician (CVT) is an integral part of the invasive team and is responsible for the monitoring the safe use of all radiological equipment.

Responsibilities

The incumbent must have experience and a strong knowledge base with the operation of hemodynamic monitoring equipment used for cardiovascular procedures in both the Cardiac Catheterization and Hybrid OR settings. Duties include, but are not limited to, invasive hemodynamic monitoring and recording, pre/post procedure preparation, patient transport, digital imaging processing, assistance with inventory control, supply management/usage, and maintenance of a safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.

• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification required or obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
• A graduate of a certificate or degree granting program or post-secondary educational program in a health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing or paramedic/EMT).
• Knowledge and ability to operate radiology (RT only) and auxiliary equipment for assigned modality to provide quality images.
• Knowledge of processor maintenance and imaging techniques. Ability to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiologic field advances.
• Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Judgment skills to be able to make independent clinical decisions within scope of practice.
• Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis.
• Knowledge of laboratory supplies and their location.
• Skills to teach safety practices and equipment operational practices.
• Skills to participate in establishing policies and procedures and in on-going CQI program.
• Skills to provide orientation and instruction to new cath lab staff and to provide teaching to fellows, nursing students and visitors.
• Knowledge and skills to comply with AORN standards.
• Ability to work overtime as required.
• Ability to meet 30-minute emergency call=back/on-call requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• RT License preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years' recent experience as CVT preferred.

• This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
