Library AssistantClassification Summary:This class is the first level in the Library Services series. Incumbents perform general and basic functions to support the operation of the Library. Responsibilities may include providing assistance for circulation and materials processing procedures; working with other colleges and the MOBIUS consortium to resolve ILL issues; and processing serials and materials.
Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience:Associates degree or minimum of high school diploma and two years of related experience.
Preferred Education and/or Training and Experience:Licensing Requirements: Classification Duties:1. Perform daily circulation desk operations, including checking in and checking out library materials; creating and updating online patron registration records; placing and removing holds on student records; handling cash transactions; and, maintaining circulation policies. (B2)
2. Prepare statistical reports using integrated library software reporting systems. (B2)
3. Provide guidance/assistance to students in the use of technology and library materials. (B2)
4. Prepare library statistics reports by compiling relevant library data. (B2)
5. Monitor functionality of hardware and software on Library computers. (A1)
6. Maintain records of items received, stored, issued, and returned in library database. (A1)
7. Process incoming and outgoing materials requests using an integrated library system. (A1)
8. Maintain the librarys security by ensuring safe handling of library materials. (A1)
9. Prepare book displays to address relevant promotional topics. (A1)
10. Find substitute titles when requested library materials are unavailable. (A1)
11. Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Position Duties: - Answer directional and general college related questions. Determine the nature of inquiries and refer reference inquiries when appropriate to librarians.
- Assist Library patrons with technology, including hardware, software, and program related questions.
- Process MOBIUS requests and maintain spreadsheets.
- Process interlibrary loan requests and communicate with other libraries regarding items loaned and borrowed.
- Coordinate requests and use of study room and meeting spaces. Assist with updates, maintenance and workflows to room booking software and forms.
- Help to monitor Library use and assist with the enforcement of college and library policies.
- Assist with the billing processes and procedures, including: generating, reconciling and sending notices and bills, placing holds in Banner, and maintaining records for unreturned materials.
- Assist librarians with maintenance and creation of timely and relevant in-house and online displays. Assist with the creation of online and print media content for publications and social media outlets.
- Work with other departments to integrate digital devices and laptop computers into circulation. Assist librarians with policies, processes, and procedures related to digital devices.
- Assist in supervision of student assistants.
- Perform other related duties as required.
