Designer IIAbout the OpportunityThe Designer II is part of the creative/UX functional area of the Customer Experience Team, which supports the university's enrollment marketing and recruitment efforts for the undergraduate, bachelor's completion, graduate professional studies, and international audiences. Under the direction of the Design Manager and working in close collaboration with marketing and recruitment partners as well as other creative team members, this role is responsible for assisting in the translation of strategic marketing goals into creative deliverables that visually align with the Northeastern University brand guidelines, ensuring the optimal experience for customers. This position supports high volume marketing teams that requires quality work delivered in a timely manner, while participating in the concepting, design, and production of a variety of projects with input and suggestions from the larger creative team. Using a keen eye for design, typography, layout, and color, the Designer II works on a variety of creative projects in both a lead and assisting role in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, brand assets, print collateral, direct mail, packaging, signage, digital assets, and web projects. This position requires collaboration with subject matter experts and a clear understanding of brand and messaging guidelines to transfer objectives for an initiative into clear, actionable, concise design work for various audiences. Other responsibilities for this role include ownership of design for various departmental initiatives and overseeing/supporting the work of freelance design resources. The successful candidate will have the ability to integrate a broad set of creative disciplines while approaching each project with creative thinking, critical analysis and problem-solving skills. The candidate should demonstrate flexibility/adaptability and be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment with competing and shifting priorities.
Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.F.A) in Graphic Designer or related field required. | 2-4 years of experience working with both print and digital assets. | Solid understanding of graphic design, typographic hierarchy, brand standards, print production, basic UX/UI principles, design industry standards and trends, platform/ browser capabilities/ limitations, and digital asset specifications. | Expertise in Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, and Photoshop CC required. Proficiency in Powerpoint and Sketch preferred. | Skilled in pre-press and working with production managers. | Ability to integrate a broad set of creative disciplines including, but not limited to: brand, print, digital, and user experience with creative thinking, critical analysis and problem solving skills. | Self-motivated, self-critical, open-minded, creative, and interested in working in a collaborative and communicative environment. | Strong time management skills, high level of attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and strong organizational skills. | Solid communication and presentation skills with the ability to present creative rationales. | Flexibility/adaptability are essential - must possess comfort in a rapidly changing environment with competing and shifting priorities.
