DESCRIPTION
Biomedical Informatics is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of biology, medicine, and quantitative sciences. Biomedical informatics researchers develop new methods to integrate and analyze vast amounts of data generated in the laboratory, clinical and translational research, clinical encounters, and population studies.
The goals of the Department of Biomedical Informatics are to (1) promote excellence in biomedical informatics research, (2) collaborate with biomedical researchers in developing new quantitative methods that enable the formulation and testing of original hypotheses, (3) train the next generation of biomedical informatics specialists, and (4) interface with engineering, mathematics, information and computer science communities, serving as a hub for quantitative scientists focused on biomedical research.
This department leads multiple federally and non-profit funded biomedical research projects, which are focused on the integration, analysis, and sharing of biomedical and health care data for the scientific community, as well as patient-centered research. In addition, the department runs a complex computational infrastructure that allows access and analysis of these data in a privacy-preserving manner.
Applies advanced systems infrastructure concepts to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Evaluates new technologies including performing moderate to complex cost / benefit analyses and technical security controls around highly-regulated secure environments. Provides complex technical expertise on all phases of software systems programming applications, contributes to the development of project plans, and assigns and monitors tasks required to implement a project. Responsible for monitoring the consumption of cloud resources, request fulfillment turnaround, application performance, and systems security posture.
Involves providing a variety of IT services. Assignments may include database administration, application programming, IT project management, systems administration, systems and process analysis, security, solution development and maintenance, business technical support or a combination of these and/or other IT functions in commercial cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure). Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), scripting, and automation in secure environments will be required.
Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. This position will need to have the ability to work/coordinate with multiple teams to accomplish program task and goals in a distributed and heterogeneous environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
Experience with project management and workflow tools such as Jira, Confluence, Scrum, Kanban, Lean Startup, XP, etc.
Administration of cloud-based instances, developing cloud automation capabilities using Terraform, CloudFormation, Salt Stack or other infrastructure automation tooling.
Advanced knowledge of scripting languages such as JavaScript, NodeJS, Python, Groovy and/or Bash.
Experience with databases such as MS SQL, MySQL, NoSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis, etc.
