The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40+ departments, 50+ Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School. Faculty in the College teach over 50 percent of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours in 80+ buildings on the Bloomington campus.
The College of Arts and Sciences' Office of Advancement handles development, stewardship, and alumni relations.

Researches, develops, writes, and edits original content for print and online materials to advance university initiatives.
Owns the production of The College magazine which is distributed to more than 80,000 alumni households.
Designs communications which may include newsletters, correspondence, briefings, speeches, reports, articles, papers, or other informative or promotional material.
Manages writing projects and assignments which may be individual or team-based.
Crafts content that may be focused on one topic or span several topics.
Supports other functions or administrative needs for the department as necessary.
Writes and edits clear, informative written content for various communications needs, audiences, and publication formats, assessing for relevance, accuracy, and appropriateness; tailors the degree of copyediting to a project's specific needs.
Independently corrects basic and complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors and performs edits that improve overall writing quality of communications and ensure alignment with university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand and accessibility guidelines.
Performs reviews of peer writing to ensure grammar, quality, tone, and level of depth are sufficient; may also review against requirements for specific publications, including content, length, brand guidelines, and deadline specifications.
Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to writing and publications deadlines.
Identifies user and audience needs and analyzes usage of existing content in order to identify content gaps; plans, develops, and publishes internal and external communications.
Drafts sample communications to be reviewed with manager at project deadline checkpoints.
May provide guidance to other Writing/Editing Specialists.
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
2 years of experience in a relevant field.
Previous experience with higher-education marketing and branding.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Familiarity with alumni and donor relations is strongly preferred.
Superb attention to detail, and experience in project and budget management.
Ability to articulate and engage with the vision and strategic priorities of the College's Office of Advancement, with an appreciation for and ability to relate enthusiastically to the mission and values of a liberal arts institution.
Enthusiasm for teamwork and team spirit; ability to ask questions, help problem solve, and support team members when projects are nearing completion deadlines.
A background in magazine planning, freelance-employee management, and higher-education demographic research is preferred, as is some HTML and Web design experience.
Familiarity or prior experience with digital design, content-management systems, and specifically the Salesforce Marketing Cloud is strongly preferred.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
