We are seeking a talented self-starter to manage our Corporate Governance and Racial Equity (CGRE) project. You will manage several complementary projects while working with volunteer professionals, corporate governance experts, and corporate leaders to evaluate corporate commitments to advancing racial equity. This position is estimated to be a full-time, one-year fixed-term position (that may extend for an additional 6 months) and is fully benefits-eligible.
Who We Are
The Stanford Center for Racial Justice (SCRJ) was created last year in the wake of our country's deep reflection about our racial divisions. We are based in the Law School, and serve the entire University. Our overarching goal is to address some of the most challenging problems in our country resulting from the history and persistence of racism.
We are currently in a planning and building phase and our near-term plan is to focus on three areas: economic insecurity, including income and wealth disparities; educational opportunity; and reimagining public safety.
The Center works with Stanford researchers and scholars across the university to develop and identify new research and ideas. Our approach is to collaborate broadly and to democratize knowledge. We want to bridge the gap between academic research and all of the stakeholders and communities who desire access to information and ideas in user-friendly ways.
The individual we seek for this position will be a key staff person leading one of our major initiatives.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
We are looking for an individual who has a background in business, law, or data science to help plan and implement the pilot phase of our project, and then advance the project to the full implementation phase. In this position you will report to the Executive Director.
The CGRE Project Manager will lead our efforts to achieve several overlapping goals:
Assist in planning and design for the initial pilot project.
The first goal is to collect and organize data about the largest US corporations relating to their commitments to racial equity, and then broadly report that data to the public.
We will design and organize programs and workshops to engage corporate leaders and thought leaders in advancing racial equity to catalyze further initiatives and highlight innovative solutions.
In addition, we will invite new scholarship on the question of the role of the private sector in advancing racial equity, and host symposia and publish the resulting work.
Finally, we intend to examine the wide variety of metrics currently being used to measure corporations' efforts at addressing racial equity and report on the relative merits of alternative measures.
As Project Manager, you will also serve as the principal contact for faculty, experts, professional volunteers, student researchers and Center staff regarding execution of the project. You will coordinate the Center's goals and needs with all supporting participants. You will also be the main point of contact for corporations participating in the pilot project.
The successful candidate should have knowledge of and familiarity with the history of racism in the US and its consequences, including income and wealth disparities, housing and education segregation and disparities, mass incarceration, violence, and the history of tension and violence between police and Black communities and other marginalized groups, and contemporary debates about racial equity and solutions.
Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the CGRE project by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the CGRE project.
Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for the CGRE project.
Represent the CGRE project as the key contact and subject matter expert within the Center for Racial Justice. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the CGRE project to external and internal stakeholders and constituencies.
May participate in development of budgets, and monitor and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience or combination of education, training and relevant experience. Relevant graduate degree in business, law or data science and/or relevant experience working in a large corporation is preferred.

Experience working in a corporate environment with a combination of legal, HR, DEI, or data science expertise.
Collaborative work style, and experience working with teams.
Knowledge of corporate disclosures and reporting requirements, customs and practices, and sources of corporate data.
Experience working with large amounts of information and data.
Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of constituencies such as corporate leaders, scholars, researchers, policymakers, community groups, nonprofit leaders and government officials.
May work extended hours, evenings or weekends.
May travel locally.
