The Professional Interview Coach provides comprehensive interview preparation support for the undergraduate student population related to the case, technical, and behavioral interview content in one-on-one and group settings. Additionally, this position prepares and delivers programs across campus. This position collaborates with Career Center coaches to assess gaps and needs in support of student interview preparation. The Professional Interview Coach also partners closely with the Employer Relations team to assist in developing programming based on feedback received from employers regarding skillset development for students related to specific fields and industries.
The Vanderbilt Career Center serves undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, in addition to alumni (0-2 years) post-graduation. The Career Center also supports students, postdocs, and alumni pursuing prestigious fellowships and postgraduate study. The Center focuses on career exploration, providing opportunities for students to learn about and explore professional opportunities including internships, career coaching, career courses, workshops, career panels, virtual and on-campus recruiting, job fairs, and industry-based Treks. The Center consists of a leadership team, a coaching team, fellowships and scholarships advising team, an employer relations team, and support staff.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide strategic interview coaching in both individual and group settings.
Develop programs related to interview preparation and strategies as well as college-to-career transitions, utilizing the latest research and feedback from employers recruiting Vanderbilt undergraduate students.
Enhance student interview competencies by providing training that focuses on best practices and cutting-edge skills and techniques.
Guide students through the engagement stages of a management consultant using modeling from a three-month to a six-month project.
Assist students in recognizing the industry nuances to analytical and creative thinking when developing their approach to problem-solving.
Foster students' ability to effectively use data to quantify and make recommendations during their case interviews with employers.
Identify and utilize high-quality cases to teach casing principles and to perform mock interviews.
Comfortable presenting challenging cases and confident in offering constructive feedback that fosters student growth and improvement.
Perform gap analyses (weaknesses and improvement areas) for students and assist with creating a performance improvement plan.
Work with the Employer Relations team to gain a strong knowledge of employer expectations and interview trends in fields that align strategically with the Vandy In communities.
Collaborate with the ER team on programming related to interview techniques and tips featuring employers and alumni.
Enhance Career Center relationships with faculty and administrators across campus by serving as an expert related to employer and industry knowledge concerning interview preparation, specific case, and behavioral interviews.
Maintain accurate metrics and records to evaluate success and identify areas for improvement.
Track and report on activities through DoreWays and internal reporting systems.
Work with the Career Center team to assess outcomes and the value of programming and services.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
A Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or related field is strongly preferred.
Three years of experience in recruiting and/or an industry role with direct responsibility for conducting case and behavioral interviews is necessary.
A Master's degree with a business emphasis and an understanding of the college recruiting system is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of career decision-making and the job search process including resume writing, job search correspondence, interviewing (including case and behavioral interviews), and the recruiting timeline for individual industries.
Experience in the consulting, financial, and/or technology industry with proven coaching/mentoring skills is necessary.
Demonstrated track record of coaching individuals through cases.
Able to understand and counsel students on how different firms approach the Case Interview process.
Access to a network of industry professionals to keep knowledge and understanding up to date.
A clear understanding of the technical preparation and tactical side of the interview (non-verbal skills, relatability) and confidence in providing constructive feedback on each of the key areas of the case (initial questions, structure, ability to drive the case, calculations, and conclusions).
Have or be willing to develop knowledge of supplemental case interview resources to bolster student performance.
Demonstrated success in the program and/or project management for at least three years.
