The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a motivated, energetic, and independent individual to coordinate operational and academic quality and safety efforts across pediatric medical care in the Johns Hopkins Children's Center as a Quality & Safety Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include coordinating and supporting the quality and safety program across pediatric care units, divisions, and committees and helping to develop, measure, execute, and report on patient safety and quality improvement programs related to pediatric medical care. The coordinator performs all activities necessary to ensure a smoothly functioning quality and safety program and exercises independent judgment in the resolution of administrative problems, prioritization of workload, and coordination of special projects or programs. The Program Coordinator serves as a resource in a team environment and provides some support to children's center faculty and teams including correspondence, briefs, presentations, communications, manuscripts, project proposals and data management. The coordinator assists with research projects related to quality and safety in pediatrics.
We seek an individual who is keenly interested and engaged with the mission of pediatric patient safety and quality improvement. Desired candidate will have experience in one or many of the following: administrative, quality, or research (clinical/health service) program coordination; project management; performance improvement methods; quality measures and analytics. Individual should have at least basic skill set and knowledge in fields related to process/quality improvement science and methods, health systems delivery, patient safety, and/or quality and outcomes.
The coordinator must be people-oriented and willing to independently approach and engage stakeholders and build relationships. The coordinator will organize and assist leadership in development of a broad and diverse portfolio of initiatives (clinical, administrative, and research) and requires the ability to flexibly adapt their style based upon the needs of the teams. The coordinator will lend project support to multiple teams at one time.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinates tasks, committees, presentations, and projects related to quality and safety in pediatrics.
Maintains routine project status and reports.
Develops and helps to execute project plans and timelines.
Applies analytical and project management skills to facilitate dissemination and implementation of assigned projects related to improving quality, safety, service, value and operational efficiency of children's care.
Collaborates with Children's Center leadership and personnel engaged in quality, safety and service to develop performance reports, convene teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, organize quality improvement data, prepare and disseminate communications related to pediatric care across the Children's Center.
Supports or facilitates research project teams, outcome measurement, data collection, presentations, manuscript preparation and submission for projects related to pediatric quality and safety. Communicates with Institutional Review Board.
Prepares and administers online/paper surveys and outcome measures.
Assists with data management and storage.
Assists in the planning and coordination of events including lectures, workshops, seminars, and meetings.
Works to ensure appropriate information and program outreach, communication, and dissemination.
Networks within Johns Hopkins and throughout the community to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
Seeks and participates in ongoing formal training and professional development to improve knowledge and execution of process and quality improvement strategies for pediatric care. (Lean for healthcare, Six Sigma, Patient Safety Certificate, QI analytics, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
High school diploma/GED.
Five (5) years progressively responsible administrative and operational experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred training in Medicine, Social Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy or related field.
Experience or training in research protocols, quality improvement tools/methods, leadership, teaching, problem solving, data analysis, and project management is strongly preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of data management, spreadsheets, word processing essential.
Aptitude for learning software programs involved in graphing and project planning essential.
Strong data analytic skills preferred.
Certificate in quality management or patient safety strongly preferred. (CPHQ, CQM, ASQ certification, Six Sigma, Lean Certification).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
Ability to confidently approach and engage individuals is essential.
Attention to grammar and written communication essential.
Successful applicants must have a good understanding and use of Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Excel, and Word) and Windows.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
