The library's administration is responsible for administering the policies and procedures of the University and the CSU as they affect library operations, and for establishing local policies that enable the Library to provide the highest quality services possible to its users. It is the principal office of the Library , housing the dean and other administrators. In addition, staff members in this office provide various types of support to library management: clerical, development, fiscal, human resources, travel, communications, security and facilities.
The SDSU Library offers resources, services, and events to the students, faculty, and staff of San Diego State University. Communication pieces go to multiple audiences and include a variety of topics ranging from accessing research databases to visiting rare books in our Special Collections.
Under the direction of the Library's Public Affairs Communications Specialist, the Graphic Designer will oversee, develop and create projects for Library-wide marketing initiatives while upholding SDSU brand standards. Projects include but are not limited to: print, web, email newsletters and signatures, brochures, fact sheets, event signage and social media. The production of visual communication pieces requires a multi-cultural perspective and the understanding of ADA visual standards. The person in this position will actively participate in library committees and teams that are dedicated to communications, media and marketing.

This is a full time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Education and Experience
Position requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a college degree in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. In addition, strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency with applicable computer software packages and systems are essential to entering this classification.
Experience with photography and video shooting/editing.
Ability to effectively present creative ideas and recommendations to library managers and faculty.
Experience with corporate or university communications and/or branding.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, multimedia design or related fields.
Experience using the Mac platform.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
Experience with social media platforms in a university or corporate setting.
Experience using verbal and written skills in order to translate complex, detailed information into clear, powerful visual pieces.
Ability to translate the communication needs of the Library into written words and artistic designs appropriate for social media in order to maximize the impact and message to the intended audience.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,903 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,717 - $6,726 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
