The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Research Coordinator.
This position involves coordination of a variety of research related activities for the Division of Population Health (https://psychiatry.uw.edu/research/division-of-population-health/) which is focused on: 1) providing effective behavioral health care to defined populations, and 2) use large data sets to establish benchmarks for treatment outcomes and to study variation across patients, providers, practice and policy. Under supervision from the Senior Research Project Manager, coordinate and manage a variety of research activities including the IRB, research data collection, data processing, data management, data audits and reporting of research findings. Research activities involve human subjects and community engagement requiring the application of knowledge and skills specific to the research study.
Employee will be expected to use independent judgment in working with external organizations and internal faculty and staff, and to work independently to follow and resolve issues with complex research protocols. Employee will rely on previous experience and expertise in research management and evaluation.
The Division and AIMS Center have approximately 200 associated faculty either in research or clinical aspects. There are approximately $17 million in grants and contracts each year. This position supports a subset of this enterprise. The success of this position affects the ability of the researchers and clinicians associated with the these programs to be effective which in turn benefits the University of Washington
• 10% Participate with local and national investigators to identify and define research problems, to analyze and interpret data from the research activities; • 10% Assist Principal Investigator leadership and senior project manager with maintenance of research protocols and materials including protocols, surveys, data collection measures, testing, etc.; • 10% Act as the liaison between the project team and research partners Maintain confidentiality of research records; • 20% Under the supervision of a Senior Research Project Manager, prepare summary narrative reports, training materials, graphs, tables, charts and illustrations; • 20% Conduct various data and testing quality control tasks, including maintenance and audit of complex databases. Coordinate and assist in protocol adherence and data collection efforts which may include collaborating agencies; •20% Create and coordinate human subject documents, reviews, modifications and approvals; • 5% Schedule, track and manage assigned research activities to meet deliverables such as advisory meetings, progress reports and dissemination; contribute to scientific manuscripts and scientific meeting presentations;
Lead Responsibilities: • Direct internal project management of assigned research aims of grants, tracking of activities with internal and external stakeholders and the completion of milestones
• Bachelors degree in sciences or public health AND minimum 2 years experience working in public health and education with 1 year experience as a Research Study Coordinator or similar. • Demonstrated experience working on funded research programs; experience developing, guiding, and conducting population health research tasks and projects. • Experience with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies. • Demonstrated experience collecting and analyzing administrative and research data. • Experience working in behavioral healthcare. • Strong organizational skills; effective verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills. • Proficient with Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, REDCap, PubMed and Internet. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple deadlines. Demonstrated experience with IRB process, applications and modifications. Experience with UW systems including ARIBA
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
• Master degree in Public Health. • The individual in this position should have experience and familiarity with the Collaborative Care model of care and the related patient data registry. • In addition, the individual in this position should have substantial experience in human subject research coordination, research administration, purchasing administration, UW IRB procedures, NIH procedures and reporting requirements, supporting Collaborative Care training, communicating both internally and externally with research partners, collecting and managing research data, and dissemination of research data
