Detailed Job Description University Photography Services team is a creative, fast-paced, and high-volume group under RIT's Division of Marketing and Communications serving the marketing, branding, communication, and archival photography needs of RIT.
RIT is known for the School of Photography Arts and Sciences which has produced many renown advertising and Pulitzer Prize winning photographers. As the leader of the University Photography Services department must uphold a high-level of standard to showcase the quality of photography the University has to offer.
This position will report to the Executive Creative Director and manage the operations of University Photography Services including its studio.
Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create and manage the creation of engaging, impactful, and brand-focused imagery for promotional and informational needs of the University. Employ creativity, artistic judgment, photographic skills, and knowledge of photography software to capture, edit, and deliver images, using both natural and artificial lighting.
Supervise full time and student photographers. Manage schedule of studio and team photographers. Provide coaching, and development opportunities for team photographers through creative direction, mentoring, and strategically assigning duties or projects. Hire, train, and supervise student employees. Identification and scheduling of freelance photographers. Develop long-term team goals with measurements of success and assess staff achievements.
Collaborate with cross-functional business partners, for example, marketers, designers, writers, web developers, social media managers, and other communications experts to determine visual potential for projects and develop/coordinate photo shoots and photography campaigns. Forecast seasonal photography needs.
Lead continuous improvement and standardizing of photography workflow. Provide direction for cataloging process of images and maintenance of the primary photography catalog for the University including identification and enhancement of metadata. Manage billing, collecting model releases, maintaining camera and studio equipment. Assist in developing and managing overall photography operations budget.
Required Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates are preferred to have the following:
Experience 4-5 years professional photography experience and 3-5 years managerial experience. Robust portfolio of highly creative photography work demonstrating styles and abilities including advertising photography.
Ability to hire, train, mentor, and lead team of photographers
Artistic vision, abundant creativity, and strong design aesthetic
Specialize in variety of photography including advertising, studio, large events, and staged on-location
Ability to use models, colors, shadows, shades, light, and distance to compose great photographs
Proficient with photo editing software
Ability to evaluate artistic qualities of photographs
Expertise in uses and effects of various types of lighting and methods
Proven track record of developing and refining processes as it relates to photography production
Successful track record of developing, executing, and measuring strategies and tactics
Ability to receive and provide direction
In-depth knowledge of professional photography equipment such as cameras, lenses, and lighting including ability to troubleshoot
Experience researching, procuring, and testing new photography hardware and software
Ability to communicate effectively to achieve a certain composition in a photograph
Positive and energetic team player with ability to collaborate with stakeholders
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-driven environments
Ability to move photography equipment regularly including cameras, lighting, lenses, and tripods
Ability to work on occasional evening and weekend photo shoots
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Efficient with time management and deadlines
