Detailed Job Description The Senior Economic & Policy Analyst is responsible for conducting the highest level of policy and economics research on a variety of topics related to sustainability and circular economy.
The selected candidate serves as a designated project manager and will lead and manage research and other projects, and will contribute their expertise to projects led by other researchers, potentially on other topics.
Duties include, but are not limited to, leading research and data collection, statistical economic and policy analysis, and evaluation and interpretation of results. The Senior Analyst will write research reports and other publications and documents, and will provide expert input for reports and documents of other team members. They may serve as the lead author on research reports and publications. The Senior Analyst will also develop proposals for new project funding and may lead proposal submissions. In addition, this position will assist in the development of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability Economic & Policy Research strategy and the execution of that strategy.
Major Responsibilities include:
Provide expert input to teams within the Golisano Institute for Sustainability that are conducting research.
Defines, designs, develops, conducts and leads research and data collection, statistical economic and policy analysis, and evaluation and interpretation of results.
Develop proposals for new project funding and design research and evaluation studies.
Develop case studies, economic trend and policy briefings for internal use, and research papers, and writes and may lead articles and other publications for a range of audiences.
Manage research projects and manage relationships with research partners. This includes working closely with sponsors or clients on project scoping, ensuring overall project execution and quality, organizing and leading teams and sub teams, tracking and evaluating progress, and may manage resources (financial, facility, personnel).
Assist in the development of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability Economic & Policy Research strategy and the execution of that strategy. Builds internal capacity on sustainability and circular economy policy within GIS.
Identify and develop relationships with additional economic and policy experts, academics, and practitioners who can contribute to our understanding of relevant issues or collaborate with us in advancing our goals.

Each year, more than 100 companies, governmental bodies, and other organizations engage us on a variety of projects to solve technical problems, innovate products or processes, implement manufacturing technologies, reduce their environmental footprint, or commercialize a new technology. Research center projects are led by full-time professional staff with significant industry experience and access to nearly 90,000 square feet of infrastructure including state-of-the-art labs and testbeds.
Required Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in relevant field (e.g. economics, political science, law, environment) and 6-8 years of experience conducting economic and policy research in a related field.
PhD in relevant field (e.g. economics, political science, law, environment) and 4-5 years of experience conducting economic and policy research in a related field.
Specialized Skills required include:
Evidence of leadership in project management. Skill in project scoping, managing project resources, and developing relationships with partners.
Advanced knowledge of research methods and analytical procedures.
Knowledge of grant/project writing procedures.
Advanced quantitative and analytical research skills.
Comfortable coordinating internal stakeholders and prioritizing competing requests.
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
Self-starter with ideas and opinions to bring to the team.
Excellent economic and policy analysis and research skills; ability to gather, analyze, and disseminate information.
Knowledge and understanding of the theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to international trade; additionally, knowledge and understanding of sustainability and/or manufacturing concepts preferred.
Ability to develop sources for data collection; familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet and other databases.
Interest and ability in working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Comfortable soliciting input, valuing others ideas and expertise.
Ability to translate complicated economic and policy issues into laypersons language.
Excellent strategic thinker and enjoys exploring new topics.
Comfortable working both independently and cooperatively with other team members and project partners.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
PhD in related field strongly preferred.
Experience writing sponsored research proposals in response to requests for proposals.
