PROJECT TECHNICIAN, ELECTRONIC , Haystack Observatory , to assist with the implementation, operation, deployment, and maintenance of research grade scientific instrumentation. Will undertake projects to implement, maintain, and improve radio science instrumentation. This will include electronic systems related to the operation, assembly, repair, and maintenance of radar and radio receivers, control systems, antenna systems, computers, data networks, and high power microwave transmitters. Transmitter maintenance may occasionally involve working with high voltages, dielectric oil, and large capacity water systems. Duties will include all phases of assembly, testing, debugging, and maintenance in the areas of analog, digital, RF, microwave electronics, and fiber optic networks; designing, constructing, assembling, and debugging electronics enclosures; and occasionally assisting with mechanical work and tower climbing, either at Haystack or remote field sites.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : graduation from a two-year technical day school or its equivalent; ten years' applicable experience; technical experience with high power radar systems, large antennas, and their sub-systems; ability to operate technical instrumentation for electronic applications and troubleshoot complex problems independently or as part of a larger team; field experience using equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and computer-based instrumentation to debug system-level problems with RF and digital electronics; experience with the assembly of computers and ability to work with computer systems in a variety of configurations, including PCs, workstations, embedded computers, and various operating systems including Linux; and ability to work effectively with little or no supervision. Must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers. PREFERRED : experience with computer aided design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Altium) and modern fabrication processes for mechanical and/or electronics applications. Job #19625
