The Supplier Quality Category Lead will be responsible for quality oversight and coordination of activities supporting the Precision Materials (Plastics & Metals) category. The incumbent is accountable for developing and leading execution of a quality strategy which is orchestrated as a part of the overall category strategy for all aspects of the supplier lifecycle (NPD through to commercialization as well as product/technical transfer activities). As subject matter expert for the assigned Precision Materials (Plastics & Metals) category, he/she will engage in Segment/Enterprise-wide Strategic initiatives and ensure activities are in line with the category strategy.
In addition, the incumbent will develop and execute a category supplier capability improvement program, working with segment and Enterprise team members to ensure initiatives are identified, resourced, completed and measured. He/she will gather data insights and proactive risk measures to identify areas of concern and leverage/execute capability tools/programs to proactively mitigate risk areas to improve Supplier reliability and drive strategic value to J&J.
The Supplier Quality Category Lead will be reporting into a segment Medical Devices Supplier Quality Leader but will have responsibility to serve all segments relevant to the Precision Materials (Plastics & Metals) category.
Responsibilities: • Proactively gather data insights and reflection from all segments to drive active engagement and partnering with procurement on the following activities: o Development of Category strategy throughout all aspects of the supplier lifecycle o Market Engagement planning and Business Award decisions related to NPD and Product Transfers o Governance process for supplier selection o Top to Top and Business Reviews with suppliers • For cross segment suppliers, coordinate across segments to drive alignment in approach for: o Supplier oversight model o Implementation of new processes and requirements and incorporation into HMD & Enterprise Source Quality SOP's and procedures o Strategy to respond to critical escalation events (i.e. force majeures, ransom ware and cyber- attacks, significant nonconformances) • Gather data insights including proactive risk measures to identify action areas and leverage/execute capability tools/programs to proactively mitigate risk areas. • Lead network of Quality Engineers/supplier quality account managers with specialty in the category to leverage best practices, address common challenges, and share industry and regulatory trends. • Provide technical subject matter strategic insights of the category to segments as needed for NPI, issue resolution, process development, development of enterprise SOP's or Enterprise wide strategic initiatives. • Provide project leadership and execution related to implementation of new manufacturing technologies/capability for J&J at suppliers (ex = 3D printing, software, etc.) • Working with other SQ Category leads, develop and drive aligned approaches to ensure consistency of strategy and execution • Accountable for the Supplier Capability strategy for the category, developing a process to engage with the segments to understand insights and collaborate on capability tools/programs to be leveraged. • Coordinate with segment leads to identify resources (where needed) required to execute capability improvement engagements • Accountable for tracking and reporting of executed initiatives and associated improvement measures and targets. • Identify and lead opportunities for proactive quality including intelligent automation opportunities and quality improvement projects • Partner with Enterprise Strategy and Capability lead to enable enterprise support where defined and to provide input into process tools/programs needed to drive capability improvement in the category. • Act as GQRM for defined supplier(s) in the category: o Develop and execute quality strategies for global suppliers based on collated enterprise wide data insights and feedback o Provide situational leadership with the supplier based on performance, growth stage, innovation landscape o Provide Global Supplier perspective to identify and share opportunities for quality improvement projects, leverage of proactive quality tools and deployment of improvements across the supplier's network o Leverage relationship with supplier to influence expediency where necessary. Interface with the most Senior Leaders at the supplier to ensure needs are met as required. o Stream-line communication and quality activities with the supplier, including: o Coordinating needs and activities across segments o Evaluate opportunities to leverage or consolidate processes, requests, etc. o Ensure approach is consistent across all other SQ Category leads • Provide coaching and tools to Quality Engineers/ Supplier Quality Account Managers serving in GQRM assignments. • Periodic review of GQRM program for the category. Determine need for new GQRMs, changes, or discontinuations based on changes in supply base or sourcing strategy. • Develop a high performing team environment and cohesive culture with individuals across the segments • Create an environment that thrives on diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and talent to generate innovative ideas or solutions, solving organizational challenges • Contribute to development of Supplier Quality professionals through mentoring and coaching
Education: • A minimum of a bachelors degree is required Required: • A minimum of ten (10) years of professional business experience • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., Segments, Procurement, IT, R&D, Supply Chain) • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing equipment and processes • Executive presentation & facilitation skills with the ability to drive decisions and influence multiple stakeholders and partners • Strong understanding of Purchasing Controls and innovative applications for various risk management and risk mitigation tools and practices (ex= mistake proofing, critical control points, failure mode and effects analysis) • Proven ability to identify and manage risk, including escalation, prioritization and resolution of Quality issues. • Experience with ideation events and/or in innovation methodologies (ex = Design Thinking, Agile, Lean etc.) • Demonstrated strong communication (verbal, written and visual) and networking ability at a global level to execute with cross-functional stakeholders/partners and ability to influence without authority. • Strong business acumen, including demonstrated experience in identifying and leveraging analytics and data for business problem solving • Financial acumen including experience with business case development, long range financial planning and business planning process • Demonstrated ability to lead through change and serve as a change agent • Abiliity to translate project/technical outcomes into execution and appropriate reporting, dashboard/scorecard formats Preferred: • Experience in Quality Assurance in Medical Device, Pharmaceuticals or other healthcare regulated products • Demonstrated strong capability in Supplier Quality • Experience managing people • Quality management experience • Project Management Certification • Facilitation Training • Knowledge of fundamental quality engineering principles such as PE/Lean methodology and tools / Process • Validation, Risk Management, and Process Control & Capability • Six Sigma/PE belt certification • Experience performing audits and/or technical assessments • Good understanding of data, IT systems and emerging technological advances and the ability to connect business needs with technology solutions to drive value creation
