The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Communications plays an important role on the Advancement team and is responsible for the development and execution of direct marketing strategies for a multi-channel and donor-centric communication strategy. This strategy engages constituents throughout the annual giving cycle, from identification to solicitation, to secure more than $2M annually to the Annual Fund. Multi-channel communications will include mail, email, website, texting, video, and social media outreach tailored to specific audiences within the Lewis & Clark community including alumni, parents, friends, and faculty/staff. These efforts are part of the larger departmental goal to create a robust, sustainable pipeline of annual donors with specific focus on increasing alumni participation. Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, this position will have robust writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability and organization to manage simultaneous projects from strategy and creation, through successful implementation.
What You'll Do
Marketing & Communication (60%)
Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to achieve the goals of Annual Giving and its alumni participation and fundraising efforts.
Direct the creation and execution of all significant communications channels from the Office of Annual Giving, including but not limited to print, email, web and social media.
Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director will plan and implement multi- channel marketing and communication campaigns to secure over $2M in annual revenue to the Annual Fund.
Ensure best practices are developed and deployed while also ensuring marketing efforts test new and existing strategies.
Establish, track, and analyze results and outcomes of all marketing efforts to measure success and make decisions to improve messaging/content/imagery etc. to maximize return on investment of future campaigns.
Manage select solicitation direct marketing campaigns including, but not limited to Athletics, Reunion, Leadership Society to increase giving to the Annual Fund.
Campaign Leadership (30%)
Collaborate with Advancement Services to ensure a high level of data hygiene across our constituencies.
Lead Annual Giving social media program.
Develop integrated strategy and content and manage execution to increase awareness of giving campaigns.
Work with student interns to deploy social media to support annual giving campaigns.
Collaborate closely with Advancement Services to manage data criteria to pull and prepare lists to ensure accuracy and integrity of direct marketing communications.
Serve as a liaison and work directly with Athletics staff to design and execute specific campaigns designed to increase Athletics support and alumni donors.
Work with Law Development team to execute email marketing in support of their goals for the Law Annual Fund.
Analyze data to develop strategy and create new proposals for segmentation and themes.
Research best practices and remain current on trends, strategies, and services offered by other institutions.
Draft and maintain documentation for social media and direct marketing processes and policies, as applicable.
Serve as key relationship manager with strategic marketing partners and vendors such as mail houses, printers, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, web designers.
Collaborative Team Member (10%)

Support and actively contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity, inclusion and equity at Lewis & Clark College and work effectively with all members of the campus community.
Assist as needed at events, which may include occasional evening and weekend work.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
2 years fundraising experience or equivalent.
2 years working with computers in an office setting or equivalent.
2 years persuasive writing experience or equivalent.
An aptitude for numbers, data, and analysis is essential.
Strong Excel and data analytics skills necessary to prepare data for solicitations and engagement programs, and monitoring, analyzing and reporting results.
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy are crucial.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar. Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate persuasively both orally and in writing.
Familiarity with relevant and contemporary tools/technologies for email marketing, content management, social media, video, event management, online giving, texting, etc.
Creativity and innovation to develop successful fundraising pieces.
Strong project management and organizational skills; detail-oriented; ability to set and balance multiple priorities, and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the College.
Ability to analyze and interpret data to ensure success of future fundraising programs/projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, ability to learn and utilize Raiser’s Edge database, Blackbaud NetCommunity, and other technology/systems.
Proficient in project management tools (such as Basecamp).
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
Significant knowledge of non-profit organizations or equivalent, preferably in higher education.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge.
Experience with multi-channel marketing.
3+ years fundraising or marketing experience.
Prior higher education annual fund experience.
Experience with Google Analytics.
Expert in how email marketing, content management, social media, video, event management, online giving, texting tools can be used in digital and other direct marketing programs to increase engagement, revenue and participation.
Experience with GiveCampus, ThankView, and print vendors.
