We are currently seeking an Upper School Photography/Design Teacher to join in the vision of our Arts Department.
Position: Upper School Photography/Design Teacher Reports to: Upper School Head FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary The Photography/Design Teacher in Upper School is responsible for providing a creative and forward-thinking experience that fosters passion and problem solving in the arts. The photography curriculum will prepare each student in grades 10-12 to reach her full potential in visual art and will highlight connections among the arts and other academic disciplines.
To prepare and implement lessons for all levels of Photography (Darkroom), Digital Photography, and Advanced Photography Portfolio.
To effectively integrate professional standards of Design into everyday classroom instruction and curriculum.
To shepherd student art initiatives, publications, and clubs.
To provide oversight of student submissions to local, regional, and national competitions including but not limited to the Greenwich Magazine Annual Photo Contest, Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Stamford Art Association, and the Sacred Heart Celebration of the Arts exhibition and show.
To prepare and supply a classroom and studio environment in which materials are enriching and correspond to group and individual needs and interestsTo create and collaborate with colleagues in exciting inter-disciplinary and inter-divisional projects
To attend conferences and professional development opportunities to ensure that teaching practices are current and inspiring
To evaluate student work with fairness, consistency, and prompt attention to student progress and support
To interact with parents about students’ academic progress, social growth, and learning needs at designated times of the year, and meet with parents as necessary
To participate with engagement in the Upper School and whole school community, including division and departmental meetings, Arts events and performances, assigned non-instructional duties, and our advisory program
Knowledge and Skills
Fluency in Adobe Photoshop and other applications in digital arts
Understanding of the history of fine art photography, contemporary art practices that include multi-disciplined and multi-media art works, as well as photography as fine art.
Working knowledge of a variety of artistic styles and visual art teaching methodologies.
Commitment to a professional studio practice and exhibition of art works
Experience in Design Thinking and Makerspace Innovation
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Art, or related field required. M.F.A. in Photography and independent school experience preferred and 3-5 years of Upper School or High School classroom experience.
