Randolph School seeks a dynamic, student-centered Assistant Head of Upper School to begin July/August of 2021. Reporting directly to the Head of Upper School, the ideal candidate will be an experienced Upper School educator with a record of success in the classroom. The Assistant Head of Upper School works in full partnership with the Head of Upper School to oversee the Upper School program and will be involved in all aspects of supervision of the Upper School including recruitment and retention of faculty, daily operations of the school, professional development for faculty, and curriculum development. S/he will have preferably served in a faculty leadership role and have experience with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and student support in an educational setting. The Assistant Head of Upper School meets regularly with individual students and/or classroom teachers to answer academic questions, discuss concerns or develop strategies for academic improvement as well as supporting the individualized learning needs of all students. The Assistant Head will be a critical member of the Upper School Student Support Team, which includes the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, Head of Upper School, School Nurse, Upper School Counselor and Upper School Dean of Student Culture. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills, creativity, and a sense of humor. The role requires a desire to work closely with a range of students and a willingness to engage in the life of our school community.
Additionally, the Assistant Head of Upper School is responsible for:
Partnering with the Head of Upper School to oversee curricular and development of signature programs
Partnering with administration, faculty, staff, and families to provide a sense of community and common purpose
Coordinating and tracking academic communication for students, faculty, and student families
Assisting the Upper School Head to support teachers in creating and maintaining student-centric, well organized, and aesthetically pleasing learning environments
Assisting in planning Faculty Professional Learning Days and other in-service opportunities
Being a presence at major school functions and events
Leading the Upper School in the absence of the Head of Upper School
Working with the Head of Upper School, Dean of Student Culture, Upper School Counselor, and School Nurse to create/maintain a positive school environment
Developing and maintaining faculty and parent digital information platforms
Staying current with instructional coaching practices, educational technology, curriculum development, national learning standards, multicultural education, and current best practices
Collaborating with the Head of Upper School and teachers to recruit, hire, support, evaluate, and retain Upper School faculty
Serve on the Upper School Division Council
Possibly would teach 1-2 course sections (English, History, or Math preferred)
Master’s Degree in education or school administration preferred
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and presentation skills
5+ years’ experience as a classroom educator, ideally in an independent school environment
