Position Summary: Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Support Services Coordinator (SSC). Reporting to the Assistant Manager for the Office of Financial Aid-Newark. The SSC will have an integral and lead role on the Office of Financial Aid processing team, which is comprised of the Assistant Managers, Senior Financial Aid Counselors, and Administrative Assistants. The SSC will have the largest verification processing caseload and will perform more technically demanding financial aid duties The SSC will be responsible and not limited to;
Student needs analysis, federal verification, and packaging of student aid, certify federal/private loan eligibility, provide financial aid/veterans aid determination; Makes professional judgment decisions regarding student aid eligibility, Adjudicates satisfactory academic progress appeals, and facilitate problem-solving with any barrier that impedes a student's ability to access and afford a Rutgers University-Newark college education; Participates in University-wide committees and projects that strategically enhance the University and departmental goals and mission; Provides leadership and program management for an area of specialization, such as federal work-study, scholarships determination for the Educational Opportunity Fund program, enrollment management and student experience, or Return of Title IV (R2T4 calculation); Accomplishes specialization projects, the SSC will interact with federal and state agencies, lenders, guarantee agencies, loan servicers, employers, vendors, social service agencies, high schools, and post-secondary institutions; Performs these functions effectively, the incumbent must be able to leverage expertise and accountability for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and safeguarding the institution's eligibility to participate in Title IV Programs;With respect to the functions described here, all members of the Office of Financial Aid team are required to participate in outreach literacy and advisement to students, parents, and the community in regards to in-depth financial aid questions concerning financial aid applications, financial aid eligibility, disbursement and refunds, cost of attendance figures, different aid types, loan comparisons, special circumstances, and estimated family. Minimum Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, work organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, and/or report writing principles and practices. Also requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in an administrative function. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor's degree; At least 2 years work experience in student financial aid directly related to award and aid determination, need analysis, verification, and packaging; Experience in higher education or university setting; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Requires a high degree of professional judgment, training, and project management skills to be successful in working with student exceptions and appeals and other University and system-wide projects and initiatives.Preferred Qualifications: Analytical Skills: Synthesize complex or diverse information; collect and research data; use intuition and experience to complement data; design workflows and procedures; Customer Service Skills: Manage difficult or emotional customer situations; respond promptly to customer needs; solicit customer feedback to improve service; respond to requests for service and assistance in a friendly and timely manner; demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse needs of students and customers from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; speak clearly, listen and get clarification; present financial aid information and respond accurately to questions in individual and group settings; Computer Skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Windows file management, Microsoft Office programs, and department-specific software programs; Oral Communication: Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listen and get clarification; respond well to questions; demonstrate group presentation skills; participate in meetings.
