Tri-County Technical College invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Advisor. This position serves students at a multi-campus, progressive technical and community college located in the Upstate of South Carolina. The successful candidate will be a passionate person dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of our students and community. Functioning with general supervision by the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the candidate must have knowledge, experience, and be able to interpret federal and state financial aid laws and regulations to make independent decisions to ensure compliance and support student needs.
The employee operates with high-level skills in communication, collaboration, data processing, and computer literacy. This position will leverage expertise in financial aid to ensure compliance with federal, state, college, and department policies and procedures and will provide excellent advising services to all students and parents. Ability to provide supportive and holistic advising for a wide range of student problems and concerns, to include both traditional financial aid as well as financial education/literacy.
Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):
Responsible for a substantial case load that provides life-cycle processing for their cohort of students. These processes require significant breadth and depth of financial aid knowledge related to packaging, verification, loans, SAP, professional judgments, State Aid, pell LEU, SULA, UEH, default or overpayment issues, student eligibility, and citizenship review.
Counsel and assist students and parents in all aspects of student aid eligibility, application, renewal, and financial planning and assistance. Be an effective counselor by being a good listener and communicator. Educate students and parents on regulations, policies, procedures, and processes so that every student understands why we must do certain things and make certain decisions.
Complete proactive student and academic division outreach. This includes everything from: supporting FAFSA completion, student outreach, high school nights, orientation, Leading EDGE, GradFest, and in class presentations, and being a partner with academic divisions, serving on student success teams, and regularly attending specified academic division meetings.
Has ownership and expertise of current policy, impending policy changes, and running of bulk processes for one of the following (Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), Direct Loans or Verification and State Aid). This policy ownership requires the employee to stay abreast with current and pending regulatory changes. Bulk processes require annual updates and per term review of forms and Banner processes. Review, recommend, and be project manager for any necessary policy, procedure, and process improvements related to the administration of your assigned area.
Financial Aid lead advisor in understanding both the regulations and available resources when working with and supporting the following unique duty: Website, consumer information and social media - Manage the departments social media presence, regularly create and post appropriate information to be disseminated to external stakeholders and constituents. Manage the departments public website requiring regular monitoring and updating ensuring accuracy of information and end user ease of use. Administer all public consumer information requirements ensuring both compliance and a value added experience for those using and searching for information. Specific items include, but are not limited to the Net Price Calculator, Gainful Employment templates, and website disclosures. Provide appropriate back up support in understanding both the regulations and available resources when working with and supporting the following duties: • Entrance, Exit and In-Grace counseling - Manage and coordinate all entrance, exit and in-grace counseling outreach efforts. Ensure all counseling is completed in a timely manner and take the lead on any student events related to entrance, exit and in-grace efforts. o TC Cares and SC Thrive - Financial Aid partner with student engagement and lead advisor with TC Cares and SC Thrive. Group convenes on an as needed basis to share and discuss struggling students and provide as appropriate additional resources and support. Requires significant understanding, knowledge, and patience in working with under resourced and underrepresented student populations. o Undocumented and Homeless students - Requires significant understanding, knowledge, and patience in working with under resourced and underrepresented student populations
Support, develop, and deliver the financial literacy programing of the Money Management Center. Provide appropriate financial aid knowledge to departments located within the One Stop Matrix Management System so that the system, staff, and students can be served in the most efficient manner possible. Participate in professional development and cross training activities both on and off campus. Serve on college committees and perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree plus 1 year related financial aid experience.
