This position is responsible for administration and management of the non-faculty compensation function. Serves as subject matter expert for consulting and advising on compensation related issues, including wage and hour (FLSA) issues. Oversees the development and implementation of compensation policies and programs to enable the University to provide competitive total compensation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes position classification reviews, assists with crafting and updating position descriptions, and determines appropriate classifications for full-time non-faculty positions. Ensures that position descriptions accurately and thoroughly describe relevant responsibilities. Provides guidance regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act and impact of classification changes, including salary implications, effective dates, exempt and non-exempt status, pay equity, impact on other positions, organizational structure and qualifications.
Conducts salary and in-range progression reviews, internal equity reviews and market salary analyses. Provides guidance to managers regarding individual and department-wide salaries. Recommends adjustments to pay grade salary ranges. Provides guidance regarding University policies and federal and state wage and hour law issues, including exempt status and employee/contractor status determinations.
Develops and delivers relevant and engaging compensation-related training programs.
Researches industry trends and best practices; collaborates with various University constituencies on compensation-related initiatives; participates in salary surveys on behalf of the University and analyzes related data.
Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
3 – 5 years of related work experience, including experience as a Compensation Analyst or comparable duties.
Master’s degree in business, finance, human resources or related field.
Experience in a higher education human resources setting.
Certified Compensation Professional certification.
Previous experience with market-based compensation systems.
Alternately, the successful candidate will possess any equivalent combination or training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
In-depth knowledge of compensation theory, techniques, issues and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement a comprehensive compensation strategy, policy and programs.
Effective project management skills, including the ability to develop an overall plan with clear deliverables and timeline.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments effectively while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Proficiency with technology, including HRIS systems and applications (preferably Ellucian/Banner) and Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of laws and regulations related to employee compensation.
Strong analytical, problem solving and quantitative skills.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong business partnership skills.
Exceptional customer service, organizational and presentation skills.
