The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) seeks an experienced Facilities Manager. The Manager will report to the Director of Facilities and Space Planning and is responsible for the provision of effective facilities-related services to the entire School. The incumbent will ensure the smooth operation of a multi-building portfolio and work with the Director on long-range planning and to establish priorities for facilities maintenance, repairs, and improvements. Additional responsibilities include the managing of service agreements, internal client management and project reporting including correspondence, budget and scheduling. In partnership with University Facilities the Facilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality services to the school while maximizing the efficient use of University resources. The Facilities Manager will perform service request follow-up as well as respond to emergencies. S/he will participate in the planning and execution of projects that include space upgrades, renovations and relocations as well as the installation of laboratory equipment. Conduct safety audits at SEAS and monitor building systems and services. S/he will provide a conduit for effective communication and relations between SEAS and CU Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, Public Safety, Real Estate, Fire Safety, and Trade Shops to ensure a well-coordinated effort to respond to issues pertaining to facilities operations and maintenance.
(40%) Ensure the smooth operation of a multi-building portfolio. In partnership with University Facilities the Facilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality services to clients while maximizing the efficient use of University resources. The Facilities Manager will manage service requests and respond to emergencies. S/he will also coordinate building utility outages.
(20%) Participate in the planning and execution of projects that include space upgrades, renovations and relocations also the installation of laboratory equipment. Manage renovation projects independently including coordination of various trades. Understand and implement the campus emergency preparedness planning as it relates to SEAS.
(15%)Responsible for the provision of effective facilities-related services to the entire School, the incumbent will work with the Director on long-range planning and to establish priorities for facilities maintenance, repairs and improvements: manage service agreements, internal client management, project reporting including correspondence, budget and scheduling. Monitor building operations.
(10%) Conduct safety reviews at SEAS. Act as the SEAS leader for the Universityâ€™s sustainability program.
(10%) Provide a conduit for effective communication and relations between SEAS and CU Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, Public Safety, Real Estate, Fire Safety, and Trade Shops to ensure a well-coordinated effort to respond to issues pertaining to facilities maintenance.
(5%) Other duties as assigned.
Bachelorâ€™s Degree and/or the equivalent required.
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in one of the following is required: management of physical plant operations and maintenance; institutional project management; or higher education planning/design. Three years of experience in facilities operations or management within higher education, laboratory setting or healthcare is preferred. Excellent human relations and leadership skills are also required. Demonstrated project management skills in overseeing construction projects in a diverse environment preferred.
Working knowledge of construction trades and construction safety requirements. The ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications and related materials.
Knowledge of the practices, methods, and equipment utilized in all phases of facilities management, including familiarity with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, monitoring and control systems.
Must have excellent communication and customer service skills to work effectively in a strong service environment that is subject to changing priorities. Strong organizational skills are a must
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies; ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing and electronically.
Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Position typically involves moderate to heavy physical activity, including heavy lifting. Requires problem-solving skills, sound judgment and the ability to understand and apply the Universityâ€™s policies and procedures.
Demonstrate knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment preferred.
