Job Description: The Assistant Director at Brown University for the Center for Language Studies, the campus hub for language teaching and learning, plays a lead role collaborating with faculty, graduate students and departments in support of the teaching and learning of all languages with a focus on educational and instructional technology. The Assistant Director will: â¢Â   Collaborate with faculty to evaluate needs and priorities relating to the implementation and day-to-day use of technology. â¢Â   Assist language faculty on the use and implementation of our course management system Canvas. â¢Â   Enhance the intellectual mission of the CLS by convening reading groups, coordinating workshops and sharing materials with faculty related to research and current trends in language teaching and learning. â¢Â   Train others in the use of technology used in language teaching and learning approved by Brown. Develop a training program for undergraduate language tutors that includes online components. â¢Â   Manage communications for the Center in terms of website design, YouTube channel, newsletter, social media and advertising. â¢Â   Teaching duties include one course per semester at the undergraduate or graduate level depending on the needs of the university (language open). This is a 10-month full-time contingent-concurrent faculty/staff position with full benefits. Education and Experience â¢Â   Masterâ™s Degree (PhD preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience) in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, instructional design, educational technology or a modern language knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job successfully. â¢Â   Experience in the implementation of educational technology for language teaching and learning.  â¢Â   Expertise to design and lead workshops in collaboration with and for language faculty and graduate students on ways to integrate and maintain technology in language teaching. â¢Â   Expertise and experience in implementing and/or supporting a variety of technologies such as Canvas, TopHat, Hypothes.is, Zoom, H5P, iMovie, Audacity, AdobeSpark, Qualtrics, Panopto. â¢Â   Experience using the following in the language learning setting: blogs, discussion tools, digital storytelling, subtitling, and online assessments. â¢Â   Ability to manage aspects of Center communications such as website design, social media, newsletter and YouTube channel. â¢Â   Excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic, collaborative nature, self-starter â¢Â   Experience in classroom and online teaching. â¢Â   Proficiency in one or more languages besides English require. â¢Â   Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
