The Associate Athletic Director (AAD) is responsible for assisting the athletic director with the operations of the athletic department. The associate athletic director may oversee different parts of the department as defined by the athletic director. This role is a leadership role that is critical to supporting the daily functions of the athletic department and will impact schoolwide operations. The associate director interacts with the public, visitors, service vendors, community, parents, and may also interact with government and business leaders. Specific Duties The job duties of the associate athletic director include analyzing administrative issues of the athletic department as they come up on a routine basis. The Associate athletic director(s) are required to perform the duties of the GHSA in-game manager for other sports, during their sports off-season. The AAD must be ready to assume Program Building and Operational Director roles of their primary coaching sports. An AAD may also participate in the hiring, evaluating and supervision of personnel. Other duties may include managing business relationships, processes, working with budgets, managing and promoting athletic events, coordinating athletic facilities, developing schedules, internal recruiting of student-athletes from our lower school, strategic planning, project management. The AAD represents the athletic department at various events. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact, promote, and represent our school and our Athletic program to both internal and external stakeholders. The AAD may also be responsible for overall department fundraising. Budget Management The associate athletic director helps to manage and formulate the budget for the athletic department. Budgetary roles and responsibilities may include determining the priorities regarding major expenditures and allocations within the athletic department. An associate athletic director may be required to discover new revenue sources for the department and work on cost containment, or authorize expenses using guidelines established by the school and the department. Other responsibilities may include managing the bottom line of budgets and spending approvals for any and all assigned areas. Other Work Activities Associate athletic directors also participate in creating written plans, policies and procedures for the athletic department. They may help negotiate corporate contracts for the department, manage branding and distribute information to vendors, corporations, and various media agents. Other job duties may include overseeing athletic facilities. Associate athletic directors may also be involved in the long-range planning for venues for athletic events, or for practice. The role also includes a tertiary roll of ensuring compliance to GHSA and other governing bodies rules and protocols for events, eligibility, and safety protocols. The position also has responsibility to ensure that compliance is followed for athletic events, that complaints are answered, and that school guidelines are adhered while also demonstrating and embracing high ethical and moral standards of behavior. The position also may require the handling of special projects as assigned by the director of athletics. |
