Detailed Job Description This position will be responsible for coordinating and managing the assigned laboratories and facilities within the Graphic Media Science and Technology department. The person in this capacity will:
Lead and administer all aspects of the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and enhancement of current and projected operational capabilities;
Serve as a point of contact and liaison for constituents internal and external to RIT, and ensure regulatory compliance with all aspects of the operation - hazardous materials, safety, etc.
Coordinate procurement and preparation activities for tools, equipment, supplies, and project materials required for laboratory courses, faculty research, and any industry projects
Support the educational mission of the GMST department, which includes, but not limited to, the following - laboratory course design, teaching laboratory courses assigned, developing new laboratory experiences for students, and general laboratory use coordination for all courses in the department
Supervise laboratory/research assistants (graduate) and working scholars (undergraduate)
Train faculty, staff and students in the proper and safe use of the equipment and collaborate with and assist faculty in the implementation of laboratory experiences for the courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs
Additional responsibilities include: support, advise, and mentor students in courses, activities, special projects, and clubs, as needed; support facilities tours, open house events, and incoming student orientations; and manage student equipment sign-out process and equipment inventory management.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree: Printing Management and Technology or strongly related
10 years industry experience in print production operations management with a strong knowledge of digital and traditional prepress and printing workflows with the following demonstrated technical and management expertise is essential:
print production operations management with technical expertise in production workflow for digital and conventional printing processes, especially lithographic, flexographic, and/or gravure printing; work with screen printing a plus; mechanical abilities needed to support sheetfed and narrow webfed conventional printing
demonstrated knowledge of Prepress software with focus on Color Management, Preflight, Imposition, Adobe Portable Document Format workflows and Variable Data Software solutions raster image processors, Adobe Creative Suite, and workflow software such as Esko and Kodak Printergy.
ink and substrate handling
Experience using High End Digital Print machines including toner-based and inkjet in black and white and color.
A working knowledge of Digital Print Finishing and various Digital Raster Image Processing systems is a must.
Applicants demonstrating experience utilizing toner-based digital printing equipment, especially Xerox Docutech and Docucolor and Konica Minolta Biz-Hub together with wide format inkjet printers and raster image processors coupled with a good working knowledge of In Plant Finishing/ Bindery procedures will be highly regarded. Other duties would include
supplies inventory management
procurement and liaising with consumable supply vendors for deliveries.
The preferred candidate would have a trade background with the ability to instill a professional attitude in the student workforce servicing all levels of labs and output centers, and ensuring as a top priority in student learnings, the importance of the highest quality service and print output.
