Reporting to the Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Department Administrator, and in collaboration with the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, the QI Coordinator works closely and collaboratively with Departmental and NYP quality and clinical leadership to improve patient outcomes and experience, as well as clinician experience throughout all department sites.
Operations & Analysis
Coordinates and plans for the implementation of performance standards and operational changes to drive efficiency and quality in collaboration with the Director and NYP leadership.
Identifies, develops, and tracks the Department's Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
Reports on variance monthly and prepares data to implement solutions for administrative and regulatory purposes
Remains abreast of current NYP, Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and JCAHO standards, provides data and metrics to comply as needed
Work strategically to provide analysis of need for developing and expanding plans and programs
Develops dashboards to report KPI to stakeholders
Assists with faculty projects which requires data management, data entry, ensures projects are progressing to meet critical deadlines.
Acts as a patient advocate
Models customer service standards and patient satisfaction
Provides timely response to and documents patient complaints/grievances
Performs quality reviews and root cause analyses and presents recommendations for change to senior leadership
Policies, Procedure and Systems
Acts as a liaison to NYP, CUIMC and P&S
Interprets, implements, and enforces policies and procedures
Recommends changes to address issues and improve systems and controls
Becomes a super user of Epic, electronic medical record (EMR), and acts as a department resource within 6 months of start date.
Troubleshoots and resolves system issues for faculty and staff
Remains abreast of regulatory agency standards to ensure QI compliance with applicable regulatory agencies
Cross covers for other administrative staff and performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor's degree in nursing, health care management, or other related discipline.
Three years of experience in healthcare quality improvement programs including outcome reporting or relevant experience in a hospital or academic medical center; Emergency Medicine experience preferred.
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding quality programs including quality improvement and process improvement in a health care setting.
Understanding of patient safety issues, QI/QA project management knowledge of recognized QI/QA standards, data analysis and reporting, and quality improvement skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Statistical analysis, data display, trending using Excel or similar program.
Strong working knowledge of clinical management program, QI initiatives, Epic, database management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite required.
Must have ability to exercise excellent judgment, tact, confidentiality and diplomacy in all interactions.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to accurately handle diverse projects and a large volume of detailed work simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work.
Must demonstrate proven ability to interact with all levels of faculty and staff.
Clinical licensure i.e. RN, PA
Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
