Sr. Business Analyst (Professional Technologist 5) 16667
The Information Technology Services (ITS) department at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Senior Business Analyst. In this role you will actively partner with business units to understand strategic priorities and work to identify ways that ITS can support/advance those objectives. The strategic plans, organizational changes, and software solutions you drive in this role will ensure WVU is leveraging technology while embracing process improvements across the enterprise enabling us to more efficiently fulfill the University's mission.
As a Sr. Business Analyst, your job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Establishing value-adding, strategic business-partner relationships for yourself and the entire IT organization.
Partnering with business units to plan new joint initiatives, evaluate proposals, and determine how they fit into roadmaps and priorities.
Bridge the communication gap between technical and non-technical staff to ensure clear understanding of project objectives, deliverables, and expected results.
Identifying, establishing, and communicating the scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
Championing functional change by embracing the right solutions to meet business goals and departmental/enterprise-wide strategies.
Leading enterprise-wide implementations
Helping others create and adhere to processes by advocating for conformance to system architecture, methods, standards, and practices.
Driving continuous improvement by collaborating with various teams to improve quality, increase productivity, and support business goals by leveraging systems that will simplify and improve processes.
Mentoring team members by building their subject matter expertise, directing and coaching, and helping them view problems and solutions from an enterprise perspective.
Conducting business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefits analyses.
Collaborating with others to determine and implement processes, training, or technical solutions across the enterprise.
Managing, tracking, and validating the status of business and technical requirements throughout the project life cycle and enforce/redefine as necessary.
Developing and maintaining best practices for business system analyst work products and related service development life cycle (SDLC) artifacts.
Designing test plans for ad-hoc, functional, and regression testing. Oversee testing to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
4 years' Project management experience, including charter, business case development, project management plan and schedule, stakeholder management, communication planning, risk/issue management, status reporting, and running team calls.
4 years' experience with business processes and Ellucian Banner/associated applications
4 years' experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
Experience in service development life cycle documentation, testing, and release cycle protocols including business requirements documentation, test scenarios/data/execution, and service transition.
Experience in gap analysis and understanding of the current state (As-Is) and future state (To-Be) business processes.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with business partners. Highly collaborative work style capable of working effectively across all organizational levels
Must be a leader who can influence stakeholders, break down silos, and overcome resistance to change within and across organizations. Ability to lead change using positive and collaborative methods and generate excitement and engagement.
Excellent customer service orientation, written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Experience communicating and presenting to business leaders and executives.
Proven experience managing change with in-depth knowledge of change management principles and methodologies.
Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies, particularly those related to software applications.
Knowledge of application and system integration methods, such as web services, APIs, and integration platforms.
Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, simplifying complex problems, and issue resolution techniques. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
4 years' experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
Ability to design, develop, and maintain best practices and standards for documentation and processes, particularly for requirements gathering, design workshops, development specifications, test plans, etc.
Preferred Requirements: (in addition to the minimum qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or an Information Technology Field
Certification or training in a process methodology, such as Lean Six Sigma
6 years functional experience with Ellucian Banner, preferably in the area(s) of Admissions, Student Records, Registration, Financial Aid and Student Accounts
Proven ability to manage and supervise staff, as well as lead cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to lead by example, coach, develop, and motivate others.
Experience with Scrum and agile development methodologies
