UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Digital Experience.
To create great user experiences, you have to both design simple, straightforward experiences and deliver useful, usable, and engaging content. The Director of Digital Experience will lead a high-performing team of UX, content design, content strategy, and SEO professionals to do just that.
This role will manage the team's day-to-day work and be responsible for driving the frontend product strategy for uwmedicine.org, our largest brand channel and digital front door, uniting a range of UX specialties into a cohesive vision. This team will be responsible for delivering data-driven functional and repeatable experiences that delight our customers, encompassing UX research and design (interaction and user interface), content design, IA, content governance, UX writing, and SEO strategies.
This position requires a leader who is a self-starter and natural problem solver with strong instincts for creating solutions that simplify complexity and ambiguity. They will work independently to develop a team that researches, designs, and delivers product flows, new and enhanced features, in-product messaging, content frameworks, navigation, and more that support the business and user priorities of UW Medicine.
It requires proficiency and knowledge about user experience, user interface, content strategy, and content design best practices to shape our channel's frontend strategy, improve our digital products, and be a fierce advocate for our digital customer experience.
The Director must have strong team management, organizational, and time management skills with attention to detail. They must be able to lead and manage multiple projects and adhere to tight deadlines. The Director fosters an environment of data-based decision-making and uses data to shape strategies and tactics. The position oversees 4.0 FTE and provides guidance and direction to UW Medicine departments and entities about user experience and content strategy.
The position regularly interfaces with faculty, researchers, and staff from each of the UW Medicine entities—Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine, and Airlift Northwest. The position collaborates and plans with members of Strategic Marketing and Communications.
UW Medicine reaches millions of people via its primary digital brand channel, uwmedicine.org. It is a powerful and cost-effective tool to reach potential and current patients and foster meaningful relationships with them while helping the organization achieve its business goals. A simple, elegant, and frictionless digital experience is essential to building relationships with patients and other key audiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy: •Define the user experience and content strategy vision, strategy, and roadmap to achieve customer acquisition and engagement goals. •Partner with Marketing and Communications senior leadership to define priorities. •Manage idea generation and project intake processes through to execution and measurement. •Analyze our strategies' performance, identify strategic opportunities, facilitate change to hit and exceed customer expectations and KPIs. •Evaluates competitive and emerging approaches to identify best practices and encourage innovation. •Provide consultations as appropriate for other channels.
Execution: •Partner closely with web development, content marketing, marketing, brand, and stakeholders to support business goals, identify user needs, understand user motivation and behavior, and design experiences that inform and delight. •Partner with the Director of product management to ensure priority alignment between the experience and engineering teams. •Partner with Director of Content to ensure content meets editorial standards and for the execution of long-form writing content needs when they arise. Partner with IT and others to plan and execute projects involving integrating 3rd party sites and software. •Oversee, manage, and develop reliable, usable, and intuitive solutions in several mediums, including lo- and high-fidelity designs, user flows, process improvements, and information architecture while utilizing user research and data. •Oversee, manage, and develop content strategy, content design, and UX writing projects that align user goals with business goals. This work will range from establishing content design and IA, UX writing to implementing processes to support content governance for uwmedicine.org, including content audits to identify redundant, outdated, and trivial content. •Oversee, manage, and develop SEO strategies and guidelines to ensure UW Medicine's digital presence is highly visible in leading search engines. •Develop lightweight, repeatable processes, workflows, and templates that keep the team nimble and successful in an agile culture.
Team leadership: •Manage a team that delivers on multiple projects. •Manage day-to-day workflow and priorities for UX research, design, content design, content strategy, UX writing, and SEO. •Hire, coach, and supervise team members. •Manage, educate, and motivate the team to create high-quality experiences. •Provide vision, thought-leadership, and guidance to the team and show the value of user experience to the organization. •Provide ongoing performance coaching, feedback, and annual performance reviews to help team members increase their impact, develop their strengths and grow their careers. •Participate in ongoing training and development sessions. •Forecast and manage budget and resources. •Resolve team issues as they arise. •Facilitate a culture of iterative design and continuous improvement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience •7+ years of experience shaping digital content strategy and UI/UX
Additional requirements: •A strong understanding of search engine optimization and how organic authority and visibility are earned on the web •Experience with design thinking, methodology, and design operations •Knowledge of social and mobile experiences •Experience leading agile teams and prioritizing work for digital teams. •Experience managing, coaching, and developing direct reports •Experience handling budgets and formulating resourcing plans •Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills •Strong leadership, negotiation, and consensus-building skills •Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with tight deadlines •Good organizational and time-management skills
