The Senior Project Manager will manage one or more complex IT focused projects in Information Technology Services Networking & Telecommunications (N&T) division; develop project processes used across N&T; coach managers on project methodologies to achieve organization’s objectives, oversee project scheduling, development and implementation, and coordinate and facilitate communication with management, project team members, and other stakeholders on each specific project.
This position may assist in other areas within ITS that have enterprise wide business impact and risks.
The project scope varies across all aspects of networking and telecommunication due to multiple technology approaches, platforms and infrastructure based on a specific service for the university.
Assignments will be managed by the Director of Networking and Telecommunications.

The senior project manager’s scope: multiple projects per year in a hands-on position, in a matrix management role, and a collaborative team effort within the boundaries of a complex network and telecommunication environment.
This position is a senior member of the N&T team reporting to the Director with no direct reports.
The university environment provides work/life balance with typical 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g. conferences/courses).
This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
Manage the project lifecycle for projects including project plans, resource requirements, change management processes, risk and issue management, key milestones, communication mechanisms, status reporting, and deliverables. Develop, direct, and evaluate assigned projects using accepted project management methodologies and approaches.
Communicate and consult with clients, project team members and other stakeholders.
Coordinate technology project teams that require the collaboration of multiple staff internally and externally. Employ understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures to manage and resolve complex issues.
Work independently and exercise good judgment. Recognize ambiguous assignments and take necessary steps to determine what needs to be done to respond effectively and in a timely manner. Take ownership and drive getting project technical, business, and/or strategic decisions made and documented.
Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in effectively addressing both internal and external challenges. Recognizes what needs to be done and responds effectively in a timely manner.
Monitor and adjust project workloads/deliverables as required for key resources.
Driving university owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this position
Operations/Project standards enforcement and continuous improvement:
Works independently to establish best practices for excellence and consults with management to modify the project and business processes to enhance service delivery.
Works within existing university reporting systems and project methodologies.
Identifies areas for improvement and project and business service delivery.
Assists Networking and Telecommunications, ITS, and the campus community as needed.
Exercises independent judgment and makes decisions to achieve goals with some existing guidelines and minimal oversight.
Develops trust-based staff and client relationships to resolve issues, develop strategies and solutions within a federated university environment.
Marginal/incidental functions: Maintains acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 Section 2.5.4. Other related functions as assigned.
Demonstrated hands on project management and facilitation skills with a proven track record of leading and managing large IT projects on schedule that meet customer expectations.
Demonstrated experience project managing large IT Network and Telecommunication projects within a matrix organizational structure.
At least 5 years of experience managing and collaboratively leading large enterprise IT projects.
Demonstrated extensive experience at the following competencies: Decision Making and Critical Thinking; Planning: tactical and strategic; Effective Communications including Facilitation; Problem Solving; Conflict Management; Process Management; Project Management; Team Management and Analytical Thinking.
Demonstrated excellent customer-facing and listening skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team-oriented environment.
Strong coaching and leadership skills.
Maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans.
Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required. Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resided in for the past 36 months. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
More than five years of experience managing and leading large IT projects at a federated enterprise level.
Bachelor's degree in fields related to Project Management or relevant certifications. (for example: Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
Demonstrated success in managing a highly complex IT focused program consisting of multiple projects within Networking and other areas of IT.
Demonstrated ability to drive effective results in a diverse and challenging environment.
Demonstrated success in leading without authority.
Experience in higher education and federated environments.
