The ASSISTANT STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH will work within the Hawken Strength Department under the Director of Strength & Conditioning. In addition to that role, they will support the instruction and curriculum development of Human Performance courses. We are building athletes through intentional programming and a collaborative approach. The Hawken Strength Department is driven by a single focus: train to compete. Our athlete-centered approach will engage the individual, inspire confidence, and unleash potential. Human Performance courses are designed for students to identify the correlation between their physical presence and ability to perform in the classroom, on the field, or in the real world. Training is targeted toward enhanced function, athleticism, speed, power, and competitive readiness in all facets.
The ideal candidate will live out the mission of the Hawken Strength Department while collaborating with Hawken Athletics and the Human Performance Department. Focused on our athlete-centered approach, this individual will recognize and enhance athlete development. They will support our annual training plan and build a progression that will allow the athlete to develop over the course of 4 years. We are looking for a candidate who is professional and brings their expertise and energy to the training environment.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or related field
NSCA certification required (or in the process of certification). CSCS from the NSCA or have certification from ACSM recommended
Three to five years of experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to successfully implement a strength and conditioning program for both girls and boys in a high school setting
Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of lifting for a range of skill levels
Experience working in the classroom and/or group fitness class instruction
Strong organizational skills and knowledge of digital training platforms
Desire and willingness to try new approaches and embrace a growth mindset for yourself and for students
Deep understanding of adolescence and a passion for working with teens as they face the complex issues of today’s world
Flexibility, energy, and a commitment to working actively with students both individually and in groups
