Our team creates, manages, and maintains websites on behalf of the College of Arts & Sciences. The College provides a liberal arts education within a research university setting, giving students rich opportunities to explore our cultural and natural worlds. This is a chance to work with a small team of developers and designers to support the Arts, Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences at the UW. As part of our team, the Web Solutions Architect, creates information architectures, builds and improves websites, manages projects, conducts user research, provides support and helps educate site editors. You will have the opportunity to produce sites that reflect the remarkable research, scholarship, creativity, and student experiences happening in the College of Arts & Sciences.
As our Web Solutions Architect, you must be comfortable guiding teams through website builds, and must exhibit an appreciation and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Working with clients, and our team developers and designers, to optimize information architecture, craft user journeys, and design websites.
Analyzing needs, researching solutions, and providing recommendations.
Coordinating department web services and support, this includes leading team efforts to keep existing sites in good working order and building new sites, and new site features, that meet the needs of our departments.
Leading groups of faculty, staff and students through web site builds, while creating schedules, assigning tasks and generally providing project management.
Overseeing support tickets related to department sites, and being responsible for maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Working with team members to maintain documentation and training materials.
Working with the web team to improve workflows, testing, debugging, systems and operational efficiency.
Understanding and advocating for high accessibility and usability standards.
Operating as a Drupal subject matter expert, helping the team craft sturdy and sustainable websites. Training in the Drupal platform will be provided, if necessary.
Working with our marketing and visual design teams to implement and evangelize the University of Washington and College of Arts and Sciences brands.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Sciences,
Demonstrated experience in:
Helping customers organize content and then producing clean, clear and friendly site navigation.
Building and maintaining websites using a content management platform, both front-end and back-end knowledge is necessary.
Providing excellent customer service through Identifying needs and developing solutions.
Additionally, you should have;
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment as well as independently.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desirable qualifications include;
Experience working in an institution of higher education.
Experience working with Drupal 7/8/9.
Knowledge of IT accessibility issues for users with disabilities; familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices; experience testing for accessibility; and demonstrated ability to design content/applications with accessibility considerations.
