KANSASCITY, KANSAS (USA).The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking academically oriented full-time faculty applicants to be the Director of Cytopathology in the Division of Anatomic Pathology and Program Director for the Cytopathology Fellowship Program. Candidates should be an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or D.O., be board certified/eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology with 3 years minimum of practical experience in Cytopathology. This is a full-time appointment at the Associate or Professorial rank on either the tenured or non-tenure clinical track, depending on qualifications.
The department is experiencing rapid growth and has established a subspecialization practice model with double-digit percent increase in cytology cases over the previous year and accessioning over 40,000 surgical pathology cases annually with a large and complex case variety. The Department and The University of Kansas Health System are a NCI-designated Cancer Center, which provides rich opportunities for clinical and translational research, both within the Department and the Medical Center.
Our Cytopathology Fellowship program provides advanced training in diagnostic cytopathology and the performance of Fine-Needle Aspirations. Over 14,000 patient cases were evaluated last year of which over 7,000 were nongynecologic specimens. The program is designed to provide 2 fellows with an in-depth experience that will include liquid based, thin layer cytology techniques, molecular diagnostics, image analysis, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and health services research.
The successful candidate should possess strong diagnostic skills with subspecialty training or experience. In addition to participating in diagnostic sign out of 1-2 other subspecialty areas, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the general surgical pathology frozen section services, contribute to medical student, resident and fellow training, and develop research projects reflective of his/her own interests.
The applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or D.O. degree and be Board certified or eligible in Anatomic Pathology. Fellowship training in Cytopathology preferred. Eligibility for unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Kansas is required.
