The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a tenure track position in Photography at the Assistant Professor level effective August 1, 2021. The successful candidate will teach undergraduates and graduates in B.A., B.F.A., and M.A.E. programs.
The department seeks an artist deeply engaged in photographic and experimental media processes and technologies, and whose work displays a deep understanding and engagement in theoretical and conceptual practice. The successful candidate will have teaching experience at the university level, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to develop and sustain an active program of creative activity. The candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to shared oversight of equipment and facilities, and a commitment to support and continue to build the photography program. With an emphasis on innovative techniques and stress the importance of collaboration within other disciplines.
Responsibilities include engagement in academic scholarship, which may include grant writing and conducting/publishing/exhibiting high-quality research or creative activity in area of expertise. Teaching undergraduate and graduate level photography courses. (MAE degree). A strong commitment to teaching and working with students from diverse populations. Oversite of the photography lab and equipment and participate in department, college, and university service. Applicants also should evidence a strong commitment to enhancing cross-disciplinary collaborations that will support the School's goals with respect to diversity and inclusion.
Salary Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits, annual travel/research budget. Position includes Private studio space, nearly 600 square feet in the 2300 Studios building, along with 8 other faculty studios, with restroom facilities and free parking.

MFA in photography or other terminal degree in relevant field.
At least two years of teaching experience as instructor of record at the university level.
Knowledge of the theories and history of photography.
Demonstrate and show promise of the capacity for creative work and the accompanying pedagogy qualifying them for future nomination to tenure.
Experience managing photography equipment and studio facilities.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Competency in advanced digital media as well as video and editing.
Ability to teach analog and alternative processes.
An understanding in the practice of commercial lighting and photography.
Ability to contribute to the CAS goal of delivering a multicultural curriculum by teaching courses that might be cross-listed with programs such as African American Studies and/or Women’s and Gender Studies.
