Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, located in northern Baltimore County, seeks applicants for an experienced Visual Arts Teacher. This is a full-time, exempt position with an August 2021 start date. This position requires an educator with the versatility to teach multiple subjects within visual arts. This is an outstanding opportunity for a person with a high degree of integrity and a keen interest and deep commitment to the value of single-sex independent school education.
Teach up to five arts classes per school year. In addition to teaching ceramics, strong candidates will be flexible and willing and able to develop and teachthree dimensional (sculpture, applied design) and two dimensional (drawing, painting, digital design) visual arts courses.
Make significant contributions to the implementation and expansion of the School’s new Arts Concentration Program, a certificate program that allows interested students to concentrate electives over their high school career in the arts and satisfy participation requirements in arts-themed experiential learning opportunities, community service, performances, and a capstone experience.
Actively engage and support the School’s commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community as defined by the School’s Diversity Statement and strategic plans and initiatives.
Develop and lead weekend, winter term, and May Program experiential learning activities and programs.
Manage visual arts resources and supplies (e.g. kiln, ceramics studio classroom, arts displays, arts supplies, etc.); collaborate with the Arts Department Chair to develop and manage the School’s annual arts department budget; support the planning and coordination of arts-themed school events.
Maintain regular communication about student academic progress with students, parents, advisors, and Director of Academics. This includes effective use of the School’s online class management and gradebook systems.
Adhere to and assist in enforcing all School policies and procedures.
Promote the mission of the School.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academics.
Other Potential Duties:
Serve as an advisor for 3-5 students and perform other duties supporting the School community.
Serve on weekend and weekday duty team rotations.
Coach or lead athletic or co-curricular activities.
B.A., B.F.A. or M.A. in visual arts is required.
Five or more years of relevant full-time teaching experience.
Understanding of and desire to work with high school girls.
Energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
A passion for creative expression with a willingness to inspire and support all kinds of learners.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency.
Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn G-Suite applications.
