The Clinical Research Recruitment Specialist serves as an independent liaison between patients, community members, research participants, clinicians and researchers in the Psychiatry Department and its collaborative partners. This position focuses on describing and managing voluntary research opportunities to patients and facilitate participant recruitment and engagement across all studies supported by the Department with the goal to advance research awareness and recruitment; support research study recruitment compliance; and support researchers through production of research marketing materials, while reducing concerns of therapeutic misconception and risks of coercion associated with research recruitment in clinical settings. This position reports to Mahrya Johnson, Director of Clinical Research Administration.
Facilitate the recruitment of research subjects for departmental researchers (40-50%): - Interface and build collaborative relationships with patients and research faculty/staff for research recruitment
- Provide a physical presence in designated recruitment locations for research participation conversations and warm hand-offs. Offer a standard schedule for time spent at each location weekly, as assigned (may be modified as needed) Examples: conduct weekly informational sessions or station in Lodging Plus, Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinics, the West Bank Department Recruitment Area and units in the future.
- Increase awareness of research opportunities through external organizations, communities and events with a goal of broadening participant pools (creating diversity).
- Continue the development of relationships with clinics to raise research awareness
- Assist in Inter-departmental recruitment partnerships, understanding when and where resources may be shared, etc.
- Maintain metrics data and provide reporting on a monthly basis
- Be familiar with all department studies recruiting subjects from outpatient services
- Interface with subjects via phone and in-person around clinic appointments who are interested in finding a study. Describe research study opportunities to them, and distribute research study brochures
- Answer questions about research recruitment from departmental researchers and study coordinators, including working with them to develop social media basics
- Managing a general recruitment phone line and email listed on general recruitment materials located in the outreach clinics (e.g. Prairie Care, St. Louis Park, CSC)
Recruitment Materials Management, Language and Outreach (30%): - Provide assistance with the creation of recruitment materials (ex. Posters, cards, digital ads) and advising on suggested language for protocol recruitment plans
- Manage inventory of Department marketing and recruitment materials, which includes ordering and usage tracking
- Maintain the recruitment boards at all locations (e.g. Prairie Care, CSC, Lodging Plus, 7A, 7ITC, 4A, North Out-patient). This will fluctuate based on active projects recruiting.
- Ensure all materials posted on department approved boards and digital spaces have the appropriate approvals
- Maintain public facing recruitment website for the department and its collaborators
- Maintain recruitment manual and templates for IRB and sIRB protocols related to each departmental study and studies approved by the Director of Clinical Research Administration.
- Maintain participant engagement spaces, including ARC rooms, recruitment boards, slide decks across the department, research outcome posters/signs and other as assigned.
Research Recruitment Registry Management (20%):
- Liaison with behavioral health clinic front desk staff (Riverside West) to identify eligible patients via the EPIC schedule for registry consent. May expand to other units and clinics
- Support the management of an automated digital approach to the research recruitment registry
- Maintain and organization of electronic consent process (tablets)
- Manage the data pulls between REDcap and BPIC and other REDcap data management for recruitment
- Maintain metrics data and provide reporting on a monthly basis
Support the Informed Consent Process (0-5%): - Support the informed consent process for studies that need an independent agent (ass assigned)
Research Administrative (0-5%): - Provide Assistance to Director of Clinical Research Administration
- Presentation support, newsletter updates related to recruitment efforts and department process changes (as assigned)
- Research Resources Google Site Maintenance (as needed)
- Attend Department and Medical School board and committee meetings to create flow between outreach, advocacy, recruitment, and inclusion activities (as needed)
- Attend Meetings: Research Staff Connect, BHRRC, Faculty Research Forum and Annual Faculty Research Retreat (as assigned)
