Description: HVAC Technician troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs, maintains and operates the DDC BAS (Direct Digital Control Building Automation System), pneumatic and electro-pneumatic systems, central HVAC equipment including pumps, chillers, condensers, air handling units and miscellaneous control elements. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Office of Facilities is responsible for providing services relative to building and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition, Facilities has expanding responsibilities that includes providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. Maintains and improves and expands all campus buildings, campus image and education opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 40 academic buildings, 14 residence halls and 19 farm buildings (15 research and 21 support facilities). Moreover, the Skilled Trades Department is responsible for operation, repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus facilities. The HVAC Shop troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs, maintains and operates the DDC BAS (Building Automation Systems), pneumatic and electro-pneumatic systems, central HVAC equipment including pumps, chillers, condensers, AHU's and miscellaneous control elements. Internal job number: 004225 Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred: Associate's Degree in Air Conditioning, Heating and Cooling or completion of trade school course of study in industrial/commercial HVAC equipment, controls and operations. Proficient in PC operations, air compressors, steam/hot water central valves and pneumatic controls and control systems or six (6) years of progressive experience in industrial/commercial HVAC activities.
