Cultivate Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Biliterate Content Specialist that is fluent in Spanish. This multi-faceted Center is leading the national effort to put evidence-based early childhood practices into everyday practice in Head Start and childcare programs by developing print and multi-media products, developing and delivering training and professional development, guiding the successful transition of students and families to elementary school, and implementing a higher education strategy to help early learning teachers meet their educational requirements.
Context and Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Resource Development, the Biliterate Content Specialist will be a key member of the resource development team and will be independently responsible for collaborating to conceptualize, develop, and disseminate culturally relevant professional development materials in the areas of early care and education teaching practices. This position requires fluency in English and Spanish, and skill in writing and communication with an audience that is diverse in levels of education, culture, and first language. The work of this position will include developing products in Spanish at the same time the products are being developed in English, as well as identifying resources and processes to translate and interpret products into other major languages spoken by the early care and learning workforce.
This position will also be expected to regularly translate, develop tools and training materials in Spanish considering the needs of dual language learners. In addition, the Biliterate Content Specialist will manage the workflow for translation, editing, and final production of the translated professional development resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In support of this effort the duties of the Biliterate Content Specialist will include, but are not limited to the following:
Content Development:
•Develop, write, and edit professional development content for higher education and professional development materials. Formats include print, web, digital, and others.
•Translate evidence-based research materials into language that can be understood by teachers, early care and education providers, and other users.
•Translate evidence-based research into culturally relevant and responsive professional development material for teachers, early care and education providers, and other users.
•Actively participate in a review and evaluation process, including peer review, to ensure creation of high-quality and culturally relevant and responsive content.
•Collaborate across the center with the media team, graphic design team, and other units.
•Lead projects from inception to completion and project manage on a regular basis.
•Coordinate with colleagues on marketing plans as needed.
•Create and manage an in-house dictionary of preferred terms for accurate and consistent translation of early learning language.
•On a semi-regular basis, this position will deliver instruction and training to early care and education coaches, early care and education providers and training professionals.
•On a semi-regular basis, this position will interpret, translate, and code written resources and videos in Spanish.
•Work with state partner organizations including the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Child Care Aware of Washington and others to design and implement stakeholder review processes on professional development products.
•Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
•Master’s degree in education or related field AND at least one year of experience working or consulting with early care and education environments.
•Biliterate in English and Spanish and experience with writing, public-speaking and translating these languages.
•Top candidates will have ample experience in designing, writing, developing and editing culturally responsive professional development materials for early care and education providers and caregivers.
•Commitment to equity in early learning and professional development.
•Demonstrated experience in using appropriate professional style guides (e.g., APA style) and ability to communicate complex ideas in written materials.
•Ability to work independently and as an integral member of a team.
•Ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects and exercise good judgment in a fast paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
•Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
•Proficiency with personal computing environment, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Internet.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
•Professional experience developing higher education courses or curriculum and training materials for early learning
•Coaching and/or training experience on effective teaching practices
•Deep familiarity with multiple early learning assessment tools and/or certified and reliable on CLASS or ERS measures.
