The Senior Research Administrator, coordinates the clinical research efforts of the UCSD and Rady Children's Hospital Division of Plastic Surgery team. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and managing clinical research projects including providing all aspects of protocol management, screening for patient eligibility, data collection and analysis, ensuring protocol compliance, and maintenance of accurate and complete clinical research files. The role is responsible for the preparation of research protocols and related regulatory documents for submission to the UCSD and RCHSD Human Research Protections Program (UCSD's Institutional Review Board or IRB) in order to obtain its approval for the research projects to proceed.
They will act as a resource to investigators and staff for interpretation and execution of complex clinical research regulations, policies & procedures. This position requires regular interaction with a variety of internal and external contacts including division of plastic surgery investigators and staff, UCSD and RCHSD IRB staff, study sponsors and/or their representatives. They directly communicate with assigned physicians and disease groups, including attending weekly meetings. They will provide direct assistance to the Project PI/Co-PI and other research team members in reviewing and verifying university research account statements, professional fee statements, and invoicing. Other duties assigned as needed.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training; OR a Bachelor's Degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Thorough knowledge and experience with quantitative and qualitative research design; scientific research concepts and terminology. Advanced knowledge in public health, psychology, and/or clinical sciences.
Project management experience.
Proven self-discipline and sound, independent judgment completing complex assignments. Ability to work independently, determine appropriate priorities, and complete projects accurately, efficiently, and with a high level of attention to detail, despite competing deadlines. Strong organizational skills.
Thorough knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and federal guidance documents. Proven experience in keeping up with new requirements for research proposals and reporting, such as formats and scientific components, of federal, state and private granting agencies.
Demonstrated experience working in academic research environment.
Proficiency in public speaking, and writing. Strong skill in written communications including excellent English grammar and punctuation, syntax skills; detailed-oriented proofreading skill (using appropriate proofreading marks); strong skill to edit for content, spelling, punctuation, grammar, consistency, and style. Experience in research proposal formats, preparation, submission and administration.
Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with a diverse group of people including but not limited to co-workers and UCSD departments, faculty, scientific collaborators and sponsors. Excellent skills to communicate effectively, diplomatically, and professionally, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, cloud based systems and various database programs. Proficient knowledge and skill in software, specifically spreadsheet and word processing.
Excellent problem solving skills with ability to provide innovative solutions. Skill in analyzing information, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant factors, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications.
