Position Number: 007599 Department: Col of Arts & Architecture (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will deepen the Department’s curricular commitment to African Diasporic dance forms by teaching street and/or concert styles such as hip hop, jazz, and tap and contribute to the curriculum in another area of study. As a faculty member at an R2 research institution, faculty in the Department are expected to demonstrate and maintain a robust research agenda, and be prepared to contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance, and the administrative life of the department, COAA, and the university. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Faculty seek a colleague who demonstrates expertise in 1. street (especially hip hop), and/ or percussive dance styles, and/ or jazz in community and/or professional settings 2. an additional pedagogical area. Needed contributions include choreographing for musical theatre productions and Department of Dance student concerts, and teaching choreography, modern/contemporary dance, or digital skills for artists (creating and editing websites, dance video, and sound scores for dance). Additional skills valued by UNC Charlotte Dance: experience and expertise with community engagement practices; experience integrating theory and practice in research and teaching; professional experience with choreography and production processes; and demonstrated ability to work across dance as cultural practice, artform, and interdisciplinary subject, and to teach a diverse student body in a liberal arts settingAs a full-time faculty member, the successful candidate must: maintain successful teaching and creative/research activities with continued engagement in the profession; participate in curriculum development, faculty governance and the administrative life of the department, COA+A, the university, and in Charlotte-based communities; demonstrate commitment to collaboration and have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and be reviewed annually; along with third year reappointment review and sixth year tenure/promotion review |
