The Financial Analyst 2 will perform complex finance functions and/or activities requiring advanced knowledge; sound financial judgement; and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. The position will independently lead the development, administration, consolidation, and reporting of the organization's operating budget and financial forecasts. It will also manage the program's day-to-day financial needs and collaborate with colleagues within OHS, and across the unit (Summer Session and Continuing Studies). Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Financial Analyst 2 is a critical member of a small, dynamic and collaborative finance team which works together to lead, support, or enable other functions within the organization in an ever-changing environment. Your responsibilities include:
Designs, creates, and prepares budget-related financial reports for OHS management including budget input templates, shared cost allocations, variance and trend analysis, consolidated budget reporting and analysis, and consolidated budget narratives.
Leads the mid-year and annual budgeting process for Online High School's approximately $15M operating budget, working with senior leadership, key OHS staff, and members of the finance team to ensure that budget submissions are timely, accurate, and informative.
Develops and prepares various revenue and expenditure reports either monthly or quarterly, expense analysis, balance sheets, and other relevant financial reports for OHS management to provide insight into OHS's consolidated operations and to measure progress against budget, goals, and benchmarks.
Analyzes financial trends, identifies operational challenges, resolves errors and creates journals when appropriate.
Oversees year-end close processes, such as managing year-end accruals, fund transfers, timely posting of transactions, and reporting. Pro-actively engages OHS staff involved in this process; pursues continuous improvement.
Develops policies, procedures, controls and processes to appropriately manage financial risk related to transactions within OHS and SPCS, including reconciliations, payment card oversight, audit follow-up, suspense account monitoring and clearing, and transaction aging. Supports the Finance Manager in monitoring compliance with policies and procedures.
Participates as a member of a project team; supports new initiatives and strategic planning. Makes decisions to determine the best approach to managing and completing processes.
Provides consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; supports negotiations with external partners.
May supervise, train, coach, and review the financial work of other staff, as needed. Contributes primarily through applying individual expertise.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
A Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills. Ability to manage and manipulate large data sets. Ability to critically analyze existing processes and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
Strong consulting and partnering skills, including the ability to lead and influence financial processes. Ability to maintain rapport and effective working relationships with employees at all levels, and work courteously and effectively with others.
Ability to plan and organize work independently, manage competing priorities, and utilize available resources to complete quality work within time constraints and under minimal supervision.
Comfort learning new systems and tasks in a dynamic environment.
Stanford financial systems experience preferred.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across university.
