General Responsibilities • Performs physical exams and other appropriate diagnostic procedures; diagnoses medical and surgical conditions and presents clients with appropriate treatment plans. • Performs medical; surgical and dental procedures; provides emergency services in accordance with hospital policy. • Promptly and accurately updates client records. • Plans and carries out a program of personal continuing education • Supervises veterinary assistants and technicians; work with them to assess their current skill level and to plan and implement their continuing education and growth. • Delivers in-house training to the hospital staff. • Is accessible to staff while maintaining doctor/staff professional relationship. • Participate in staff training and staff meetings. • Works toward and attains hospital productivity standards. • Works with Medical Director to set hospital medical protocols and procedures; performs all duties in accordance with them. • Works with the Medical Director on plans for developing and growing the business. • Is active in professional organizations. • Ensures that appropriate take home instructions are complete and take home instructions complete to fully educate clients on their pet’s healthcare needs. • Takes time to communicate effectively with clients, presenting them with treatment plans and being sensitive to their emotional status. • Set an example for the staff in dealing with clients; promotes the concept of the client-centered environment. • Helps to develop new programs and processes that meet clients’ changing needs. • Assists the marketing effort by participating in community activities that focus on the veterinary profession. • Communicates objectives, motivates staff, builds and maintains morale. • Takes an active role in hospital staff meetings. • Promotes cooperative working environment among staff members; understands the value of teamwork; shows enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the hospital function as a unit. |
